Sooo i dont know much about cars...

i know you want a hatchback but another decent option would be a toyota tacoma like early to mid 2000's. check out craigslist you can find some decent ones for under 10k. they are 4wd and you can get either 4 cylinder or v6, and v6 isnt that bad on gas.
 
i know thats hooked up and shit but i dont like how they look.... they look like rice rockets or mommy cars to me

That's actually a stock STI, not modded at all, at least not externally. As for the interior, I love mine. It has racing buckets with a dark blue pattern on it that looks really nice, not flashy. Black and silver trimmed interior. Very nice.

But to each his own. Just cause I like them doesn't mean anyone else has to.
 
That's an STI, they retail for high 30k's.

Get a Subaru for sure. If you've got the money, get a WRX wagon. I've driven around the entire western U.S., gotten stuck in snow up to my door handles, fit my entire life (including skis) in the back and I wouldn't trade mine for anything in the world.

Seriously, I think I'm tempted to marry it. It's beautiful, reliable, always cheers me up and best of all, it's always ready to go when I am.
 
yeah dude, an STI is the perfect car for this girl. i mean, come on! every young woman actually needs a rally car, because going anything less than 80 up to the mountain isn't acceptable. and while boosting around everywhere it delivers STUNNING gas mileage! it's almost like a perpetual energy machine! and let's not forget the amazing affordability that this car has to offer! why..just the other day this old lady was selling her brand new STI for like 4000$! Don't forget about the rock bottom insurance costs either! ;)
 
Haha ya, the only reason I brought up the STi was to show how sexy they are. But aside from that, I just bout a WRX about 2 months ago. Quite possibly the greatest car I have ever ridden in, and I've been in some nice ass cars. Fun as hell to drive, not terrible on gas, fast, and AMAZING in all weather conditions. I couldn't ask for more.
 
SCREW ALL THESE CARS AND PRACTICALITY... Get a skyline gtr weld up the rear diff and you can drift the shit out of it..

sensible alternative there is the toyota Hilux?
