Sony Vegas Help?

hey. i reocrded some video clips on a digital camera this weekend, now when I import them into vegas 7 and try to play them there is aonly a black screen where the video preview is yet i hear the audio. and they are in .avi format. any ideas?
 
they play in quiktime, but wont show in vegas. gahh i dont wanna have to resort to movie maker which they do play in..
 
are the files already on your computer? just click import or whatever it is in the media section
 
make sure that you are putting both the audio and visual track on the story line. it sounds like you may just be putting the audio track on there. the story line should show a video track with pictures of the frames from the video and under that should be the peaks and troughs of the audio track. i hope that makes sense.
 
yea kind of. i just clicked on the videos in teh project files and they say

video: stream attributes could not be determined

audio: 8,00 Hz blablabla uncompressed
 
hmmm well sometimes vegas can be kinda picky about video formats. mine is anyway. maybe try reuploading the footage. im not too sure what else it could be.
 
check to see if your video track is muted, that could be the case, if so the whole track which the clips are on would be a shade of grey, just uncheck the mute track icon.
 
I havnt used vegas in a long while but I remeber having to install some add-on thing for mpeg2s or something before I could use a lot of my video. Probably not gonna help but i thought id throw it out there. Try getting the latest version I know I had atleast Vegas 8 and this was well over a year ago.
 
if your using Vegas Pro 8.0c i had the same problem but with .m2t footage (HD). i reverted back to 8.0a so i could finish my project for school and that worked. Also i emailed the tech support and this is what i got:

You

can fix this by opening any file in the Trimmer (right click and choose

"Open in Trimmer"), then deselecting the "Show Video Monitor" button.
