Sony Vaio

well I know there are a million threads on this and I've been reading through them, but next year I'm going to college and am undecided as far as majors go so I need a computer that can cover a wide range of things, I have 1,000 dollars to spend as a graduation gift, I was looking at the Vaio NS and was wondering if other people had one and what they though or any other good laptops in that price range. not a mac because they are too expensive and i think I'd rather just have a pc

Thanks

After all the arguing and bitching and moaning and a clusterfuck of a thread, this is what will really matter.

So just go buy one now before all the hipsters can tell you otherwise!

vaio's are decent laptops if you want a average power slim portable notebook, but if your going to be using your notebooks for digital editing/gaming you will want a much more powerful computer,

the most bang for your buck is sager, i would check their official website (http://sagernotebook.com/default.php) to pick one out, but to buy one get it through a reseller (xoticpc.com) they build em for ya, extend your warranty, and its cheaper.

I'm not Familiar with the particular model your talking about, so my info about vaio's is based on a generality about that brand, they certainly aren't bad computers, and their fine if your just doing school work, they just aren't very powerful

i had a friend that had vaio fan problems A LOT. id go dell personally, when i had pcs they worked out well.

thats because he is everywhere, but with a name like uni-corn, you would think he would be elusive, hard to find, and have magical powers

well, to bad you think the macbook is to expensive cause im getting mine today and im beyond stoked!

lenovo is solid, simple and very efficient. I agree about the hp bloatware, they load you up with shitloads of useless programs and charge extra for it as well. I hold strong to my comment about dells being unreliable.

And if we are going to get into more brands, whatever you do, NEVER BUY AN ALIENWARE. Build quality is absolute shit and they charge an arm and a leg for upgrades. BTW i'm only talking about their laptops, their desktops are great.

Sony's customer service isn't that bad, and for the most part sony's wont fall apart either so he probably won't need it

I have a Vaio NS...but I've only had it for a few months, so I guess I can't give too much of an opinion. =|

No issues thus far? lol

I think it's hilarious the Sony Vaio comes with an XP downgrade... too bad "downgrading" to XP is an upgrade. Vista is horrid.

I wasn't a fan of macs either, but my brother talked me in to a Macbook and I LOVE IT.

I was also going to go with the Sony Vaio... but I found it to be WAY too big and bulky to carry around.

Get a refurbished Macbook, it's brand new... someone just returned it so they can't say it's new. That, and it's a lot cheaper than a Macbook is with a college discount.

i've had a vaio for 3 years this saturday. i got the 3 year bestbuy warrantee and had to use it twice (i dropped it on the power port and it got all fuckedup). i've had one instance where i needed them to fix it because of viruses (my fault). and now its startin to crap out. my battery is pretty shitty now, sooo many viruses that no program i have can find, and the wireless card is starting to shitout. overall i'm real impressed with it. however i think i'm getting a mac soon (those back to school deals are too hard to pass up)

oh i know i have more than one. i lost my windows disk and i can't format it somehow. i'm definitely doing it wrong, but i don't know how to do it and i've googled my dick off trying to figure it out. haha. what am i doing wrong?

please, do not get a vaio.

I have one and it is THE single worst computer I have EVER used.

I can't watch ANY video on it. It just goes frame by frame and is all choppy along with the audio to it, it is slow as a fucking sloth, the battery lasts half an hour at its best times, i could keep going, but just DO NOT GET A VAIO.

no it was fine when I got it, but after a year of basic MSN/internet use.. no games or anything, it started doing the video thing. We've sent it in like 3 times and theyve told us its fine every time, which it clearly is not, and my friends who are good with computers have looked it over and have told me that somethings fucked up.

so how do you format a drive aside from right clicking the drive and formatting (i think you need like 2 drives for that to work, mine always errors). or do i have to make another thread haha

you just watch too much porn, but thats the fault of your antivirus software, not the vaio.

P.S. to whoever said vista sucks get your head out of your ass, the initial relase had a couple bugs and was missing a few drivers and the media hopped on that shit like no other, but the vista thats being sold right now is a ery solid OS, and if you wait a year you can get Win7. I have my computer dual booted with windows vista and the beta for win7 and its a real nice os
