i have a sony DCR-TRV340 handy cam that used to be my dads but he gave it to me. anyways im having trouble uploading video off of the 8mm tapes. if anyone can help me that would be great
Hi 8 is digital8 if it's shot on a digital8 camera. Hi8 and dig8 cameras use the same tapes, they're just encoded differently depending on whether it was shot using a digital or analog camera.
It is possible to upload analog hi8 footage onto a computer using analog passthrough (a feature found on many minidv cams) but i won't get into that.
What kind of computer and software are you using to upload? Are you using a firewire cable? Give me details and I will help you.
you can get a box that converts the footage to digital. Your camera connects using rca cables and then the box connects to your computer with firewire. heres a link to some:
its a digital 8, and my computer uses windows vista. i do have fire wire but everytime i plug it in and switch my camera to the vcr mode, it says i need a driver or something....however my camera has a 128mb memory stick and i can switch my camera to memory mode and it i can upload the small 15 second clips off of the stick. but for filming as you all know 15 seconds really isnt much so id prefer to use the 8 mm tapes for sure
hmmm....i dont know it is an old camera but i know there is a way to get the footage off. are there any softwares or programs that can upload media off. the camera also has a tag on it for USB streaming and another one that says MPEG movie if that helps anyone figure out whats going on
did you try to upload using usb? If it says 'usb streaming' on it, that would be a logical choice. are you using windows movie maker, or a different program?
i got windows movie maker, and i dont think i have a usb cable. nonetheless my computer recognizes the camera, it just says the driver is missing but im not sure what the driver is for it, its probably the software that came with it but god knows where that is.
theres your problem! Firewire is more or less universal for uploading videos from tape based cameras. Check your computer for firewire ports. You're probably going to need either a 4 to 6 pin cable or a 4 to 4 pin cable.
his camera is a digital8 camera though. he shouldn't need that box. digital8 cameras work as an analog passthrough system for hi8 tapes. even if the tapes were shot on an analog camera, they can be uploaded with a digital8 camera.
well il try the firewire for sure. i dont know the problem could be that i dont have the required software.....does anyone know what software comes with most sony cameras
