Sony A6000 Camera Thoughts

Fairly new to photography and am wanting a camera mainly for pics but also for video too.. I've looked into the Sony A6000 any one have or shoot with one???

i have one and I like it a lot. It makes nice pictures. It is light. It does a few neat things that other cameras don't do.

It does some bad things too. The battery doesn't las super long. But that is with all small cameras. The electronic viewfinder isn't the highest quality and appears to display the image much brighter and more saturated than it really is. I've never heard anyone complain about that before so I'm probably just stupid.

I have one and mainly use it for photos. At first I was worried about it being a mirrorless since I didn't know anyone that used one. Love how easy it is to learn on. It was the first camera that was truly mine and I have learned so much using it. Take really clean photos and has a high fps if you are looking for that.

The battery life is an issue but the batteries aren't that expensive and you can get them off amazon even cheaper.

The size is amazing. I actually put my camera body with the kit lens it comes with, as well as a 18-200mm lens and the charger all in a hard goggle case I got a few years back. This way I can drop it in my backpack and know it's going to be safe at the bottom of a bag. Also if I'm using the kit lens or a smaller wide angle, I can fit it in my pocket if needed.

I don't have one, I have the a7, but many of my friends use the a6000.

Pros: small, light, high quality resolution, easy to take skiing, easy to film with, there are many adapters available so that other glass can be used with it. I could honestly go on and on

cons: battery life is poor, sony glass is pricy

might be jacking this thread but i'm really considering ditching my t3i for one of these.

is it much of an upgrade over the t3i?

would it be just as good to get some nice lenses for my current camera?

are there any other options for a mirrorless i should be looking at?

I think its the best camera you can get for the $$$$. Awesome autofocus, dynamic range, and resolution all in a super tiny package. My main gripe is the limited choice in lenses.

I've used my a6k for professional work, even a wedding. It is a beast of a camera. The 1080 60 is crisp and nice. The dynamic range is about 2 stops more than a t3i. I started on a t3i and won't go back to dslr now. I love how light it is, great fps although keep in mind if you shoot raw which you should. The 11fps works great but the buffer locks up the cam for a few seconds after you snap a handful at high speed. Not a big issue unless you have to instantly see what you shot or change setting. Hasn't hindered me any. The evf is a bit bright and saturated just lower the finder settings in the menu. Focus peaking is absolutely awesome as well as eye auto focus, face recognition, smile detect. You can lock focus in video and it'll track your skier for you etc. The list goes on. Cons battery life (turn on airplane mode and auto power save 1min) and my battery lasts half day. As for lens choices see below

Many adapters smart and dummy for Canon Minolta nikon etc. Also their lens line from Sony is expanding, yes spendy on some but. For a non pro not worried about pixel peeping. Rokinon 12mm. 300, sigma 19mm f.28 220, 55-210mm f3.5-6.3 275, sigma 30mm 1.4 325. That right there and you've got a hell of a kit for a starter. Pick and choose any of those lens and won't be disapponted.
