Something that's really starting to bother me

Forgive me for being a whiner.. and let me start at least with this: I understand that in order to make money NS has to sell add space. I respect and understand that. What I do not understand is why I need to watch a 15 second add for EVERY video I want to watch. Isn't there some way that the add could be played every 5 videos you watch or something? It's pretty damn irritating watching the same friggen 15 second add over and over again.. especially when sometime its just a 30 second clip you want to watch.

that's all... and btw sorry if this is a repost I searched around a bit and I've never noticed anyone else bitching about this situation... and I think it deserves to be bitched about a bit. just sayin.
 
I agree. I also wish that there was a way that I could turn the volume on the ads off. When I'm trying to watch edits with my own music on instead and an add that i can't mute comes on, it's really frustrating
 
Have you never watched a video on youtube or any other video site for that matter? They all have ads too. Its the internet, people on that internet thing like to make money, so they sell ads. Welcome.
 
if the add was 1/3 the length then the advertisers would want to pay that much less. usually i hate ads, but newschoolers is one place where i will not complain because the revenue goes towards something i like and use
 
yea genius.. i fucking watch movies on the internet just like the rest of the world. on youtube you watch a 10-15 second add for every 5 videos you watch... not a 15 second add for EVERY fucking video. blablahblha.. NS has plenty of ad space revenue, fucking out of control roll down adds.. side bar ads everywhere... why can't they just roll back A LITTLE on these insane fucking 15 second ads for EVERY FUCKING CLIP. I don't want to watch though a 15 second add just so i can watch someone's 10 second long clip. it's just fucking stupid.

 
Now, you will absolutely not see a 15 second ad for a 10 second long clip. I'm fairly sure we have ads restricted to something like clips over 30 or 60 seconds. This can be verified and played with.

I will admit that there is a heavy rotation of advertising going on right now. We had a lot of sponsors that were super excited to come on and support the site - and it happened all at once.

I really do appreciate the tolerance of the advertising on Newschoolers. I know that we're still in a learning curve with figuring out the right balance of pre-roll, but it really does support the sport to tolerate these ads.

You can even know that the ad revenue is getting split with a lot of our top producers, and they're paving the way to a new world in which lots of up-and-coming producers will be able to monetize their content on here.

Not only is NS trying to make money, we're trying to build an ecosystem where you can monetize your own content. Advertising is a very important part of it, so building it into our normal life and accepting it will get us to our goal faster.

Things should balance out as traffic picks up as well. With all the crazy video that is about to drop, we should be doubling in views in no time. That should alleviate some of this as well.

I'm sorry its frustrating, but believe me it is extremely appreciated that you watch those ads. Just watching an ad goes to support the industry, and keep things moving in the right direction.

 
thanks for your response. I really appreciate it. Like I said.. I respect and understand the need to generate ad revenue.. I just felt like this particular ads on edits/vids business are out of control, especially considering it is the same exact ad every single time I watch a vid. hopefully more traffic in the video section will help to alleviate this issue.

anyways thanks again. done with my ranting now. back to watching ads and edits. =D
 
What the heck is with the boobie ad? I can only assume that was first drop, I didn't watch the whole thing, clicked out right away actually. You know why? Because I'm at school and I don't need people thinking I'm watching porn in a GIS lab, I can only assume its a FD ad.

Frankly, thats just inappropriate Bishop, I don't care if you think you are being "badass" or "rebellious" or "making skiing more fun," but c'mon, the half naked chick ads are enough, I don't want to be worried about boobies popping up on my screen when I'm watching vids at school or with other people who don't know about NS.

Be badass in actual ways, any stupid 12 year-old can watch boobies on the internet, how does this make skiing better, or make your or FD feel badass? or improve the site?

 
This decreases revenue because it creates a way to bypass the advertisement, and that's not what the space buyers are paying for. NS can charge more for ads without that "Skip Ad" button.
 
but this is something that I agree should be addressed. I've never even seen you guys give a straight answer to somebody that complained about the titty ads.
 
Great, so does almost everyone on this site I'm sure, but not out of nowhere when I'm browsing NS in a public place, or even at home on my own for that matter. Don't allow FD to plaster their stupid ads all over the site, its ridiculous, and lots of people are sick of it.

And before FD comes in here and calls me out for "taking away the freedom of skiing," let me say that for all the try hard efforts of FD to be badass and carefree, they are really failing hard at it. Oh, so you post boobie ads and have e-fights on the internet? Cool, your about as "badass" as the average 14 year-old who just discovered the net. Want to contribute to skiing? Try making innovative products, sponsering an awesome up and comer team, making a sick team movie, just do SOMETHING differently than what you are doing now, b/c anyone with half a brain can see through your childish "marketing."

Nothing personal against Lesh as I have heard he is a cool guy in person, but c'mon man.....
