i forgot this shit from calc 2 years ago...

what does the first deriv tell you?

how do u kno if its a local max or min?

what does the 2nd deriv tell you?

anyyooooneee puuhleaseee

to find the local max or min, u can just plug it into the graphing cal. plug ur equation ino y equals. grapgh, then go to one of the top buttons,(im at work right now and dont have my calc handy) thhen find where it says max or min, then due as the calc tells u to get ur max or min. i doubt this helped.

first deriv tells you slope.

solve the first derivative for zero, because slope=0 when it is a horizontal line, which means that it will go from increasing to decreasing. then plug those values into the origional formula. then you will know both X and Y values, so you can tell if its max or min.

second deriv tells you concavity. same process for second deriv test.
