Someone died at alpental

I got this from king5.com:

'SEATTLE - A skier was killed at the Alpental ski area Saturday.

The 59-year-old man died while skiing in a permanently closed area called Disposal Ridge. He went down between two avalanche control chutes and fell nearly 1,000 feet.

No further details were immediately available.'

I saw some old people there. I wonder if I saw him earlier.

You know something that would really make me applaud? A guy gets stuck in quicksand, then sinks, then suddenly comes shooting out, riding on water skis. How do they do that?

Here's the Seattle Times article:

'A 59-year-old skier from Tacoma plunged several hundred feet to his death yesterday at the Alpental ski area at Snoqualmie Pass.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was skiing alone when he apparently entered a permanently roped-off section on the lower International cliff area, a ski-area spokesman said. He fell from Cliff 3 to the bottom of an open run called Shot 4.

The King County Sheriff's Office said the skier fell 600 to 900 feet and died on impact. John Pretty of the Summit at Snoqualmie, which operates Alpental, said the fall was more like 250 to 300 feet.

Pretty said he doesn't think weather was a factor. It was overcast with light snowfall and intermittent sunshine — typical for this time of year.

The season closes today, and about 300 skiers were at Alpental yesterday, Pretty said.

Another skier found the man's body at about 4:35 p.m. The Sheriff's Office said his body was found shortly after he fell.

Earlier in the season, Joshua Williams, a 16-year-old sophomore at Skyline High School in Sammamish, died when he fell over a 30-foot cliff while snowboarding in an out-of-bounds area at Alpental. Another snowboarder was killed at the ski area in 1999 when he went off a 200-foot cliff in another out-of-bounds area.'

Those are massive cliffs. Feel sorry for the dude. He must of been one hardcore skier. Moment of silence in his name.

Burns: We don't have to be adversaries Homer, we both want a fair union

contract...

Homer's Brain: Why is Mr. Burns being so nice to me?

Burns: ...and if you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours...

Homer's Brain: Wait a minute, is he coming onto me?

Burns: I mean, if I should slip something into your pocket, what's the harm?

Homer's Brain: Oh my God! He IS coming onto me!'

Burns: After all, negotiations make strange bed-fellows.

Homer's Brain: (Screams)

Homer: Sorry Mr. Burns, but I don't go in for these backdoor shenanigans. Sure

I'm flattered, maybe even a little curious, but the answer is no!

open run called shot four? never hear of it. maybe hes talking about shot six, cus thats near lower international. maybe he cut the rope on the far side of adrenalen and skied down and fell? i dunno.

~Tom

maybe they are talking about shot six, cus they werel ike near shot 4 and open run?? i have heard that shot four was coming off the cliff, and you have to make a lot of cliff drops and only on a good snow year and its insanly steep and that only a fiew people have made it. but im not sure if that was shot four, it was like shot number, and also it came out into lower nash. i know where shot 8 is. i want to ski that sometime.

~Tom

Yeah i know exactly where he fell, its not really shot 6, its in that same area though, if you take lower international and traverse all the way over and look up, that is where he fell. I'd say its about 300-400 feet, I feel terible for this guy becasue there is no way possible down that area he probably got stuck and just fell.

Get down with the best in town!

a guy died after dropping a 30 foot cliff? eek

and he flew round the world on a never ending dinnerroll...

the guy that died earlier this year fell off a thirty foot cliff accedentally and fell on his head into powder and suffocated, it was a snowboarder.

~Tom

suffocated? that would be such a bad death... respect to them.

That really sucks, one of my friend's earlier this season acciddently went off a 200ft cliff in whistler, he survived but, broke his pelvis, leg, arm, and punctured his lung. It was amazing that he made it out alive.
