so i get this shin bang, and its the tight muscles that are on the outside of your calves. like exactly facing 90 degrees to my left and right. when i land backseat they get super soar feeling type thing. sometimes if its super bad it gets swollen, and it hurts if i get hit in the back of the calf too when it hurts...i was wondering if anyone knew what this is cuz i've had shin bang on my shin before and this isnt it but comes from same thing...

i know its from that....but my friend said that its something about fluids build up there or something but i dont believe him

there is a difference between shin bang and shin SPLINTS...

some people that think they have shin bang all year actually have shin splints. look it up. it could be what you have.

Shin splints is actually stress fractures in the bone. Stress fractures are caused from multiple impacts to the same place. Shin splints is when the muscle starts to separate from the bone.

sorry i totally messed that up. Shin bang is when you have stress fractures in the bone and shin splints is when the muscle starts to separate from the bone. When you have shin splints the best thing you can to is Ice the shin, it reduces the pain and swelling. Do it for 20-30 minutes every 3-4 hours for 2-3 days, or until the pain is gone. the only thing to really help shin bang is to stop landing back seat. haha

ya but he's talking about the sides of his calves, not the front of the shin, correct me if i'm wrong.

i've got a stretch for you. sit in a chair. bend one of your legs up so you can easily grab your toes/top half of your foot in one hand. now twist that foot inward. now straighten out your leg as far as you can, fully extended is best. if the outside muscle becomes super super painful you should probably see a doc or physio or something, but if it just stretches it nicely, stretch it more you might work out some kinks

thank you,

i fucking hate spk's they aren't for everyone . The day i tried them out it threw my skiing off so much it was ridiculous

i started to get shinbang a bit midseason but then i just started landing swithc more and it solved my problem, but then my boots packed out and it got worse

seriously? spks dont fit my feet for shit and when i tested them they sucked. basically, any boot you get will still have shin bang if you land back, even full tilts. But full tilts are the shit

They can both be categorized as the same thing, because "shin splints" is a broad term used in medicine now. The "splints" you are talking about is when your gastrocnemius or soleus muscles get torn away from where they touch the tibia, or if the interosseous membrane between your tibia and fibula start to separate. This is called Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome. The other injury you are talking about, shin bang, is when you get a bunch of fractures in your tibia because of the way that you land, and thats just called Stress Fracture of the tibia, or fracture if you manage to get a clean break (jah forbid).

Sports medicine is the only class that I'm good at.

yo i got the same thing..for weeks ive been doin track and skiing and whenever i do either it flared up like a motherfucker and absolutely kills. The other day i was up at the mountain and cased a jump on a front flip and i felt like my legs were broken, that was monday its now thursday and i forced my self to have no activity since. My physical therapist said it is shin splints and gave me sum stretches and told me to ice and use heat but since its the side/back of my legs mostly its a weird type of shin splint....so ya i know what ur goin through-rest, ice, ibuprofen and stretch, thats what im hoping works, good luck
