Some tips on my first rail

start small on a box, go on straight and then turn and gorrilla steeze it. the farther apart your legs are the more balanced you will be. assuming your a first timer make sure your edges are dull so you dont catch. pretty much just make sure you jump on and turn and easy style it. have fun with it.

and try the searchbar. i'm sure theyre are plenty of threads on this.

i stole this from c0bra_c0mmander from another thread

With jibs, start with a low, ride on flat box, preferably one that

doesn't have 27 snowboarders sitting in the landing. Approach

straight, pop off the ramp and rotate 90 degrees. Though some people

like to slide with their midsole centered, I try to stick my toes in

the middle of the box (advice from a coach I met on the lift at T-line

last year). Keep your stance wide, keep your weight on your front

foot (I usually am on the back edge of my leading ski) and focus on

the end of the feature. When I first made a concerted effort to slide

a box, I stacked (heinously) the first nine times I tried. Don't get

discouraged - get up and hike that mother again.

this is such good advice. listen to it.

usually ive heard its not good to try and turn once your on the box...i thought it was best to pop and rotate the 90 in the air..thats how i learned

Make sure you jump on, don't ride on. Also, straddle the box/rail as you approach it and keep all your weight on your front foot, and as mentioned before, look to the end of the rail, or even past it sometimes so you don't see it at all, because if you look down at the rail/box you will lose balance. You will fall, and when you do, just get back up and do it again it's no biggie, but you will get it. Just spend your day hiking that shit and you will get it, no worries.

Also, keep your downhill hand by your right hip/ass-cheek, and watch the end of the rail/box. It wil keep your weight balanced better, and help ensure you stay sideways and set you up for coming out. it will style it out too.

dont look at your skis, look to the end of the feature. dont over rotate your shoulders because then you will just spin off the box or rail. dont jump across the obstacle, jump onto it. practice practice practice.

Start on a short box if you can, that will be the easiest to learn on. If you have new skis, I would file the edges down a bit so that you won't catch. Also, make sure you can hop a 180 just while you're on the ground. If it makes you feel better, try just riding over the box straight a few times just to get your confidence level up.

For your first hit, come into the lip with your legs around should width apart. Pop off the top just enough to get up on the box. As you pop, throw like you are doing a 180, just not quite as hard so that you stop at 90. Keep your hands in front of you and be sure that you stay on axis. (Most people are scared and lean uphill when they pop. That will make you off balance when you land.) As you land on the box, think of putting most of your weight on your front ski. Bend your knees and try to keep your skis about shoulder width apart. Focus your eyes on the end of the rail and keeping your weight a bit forward. (Most people lean uphill when they first try sliding a rail or box and slide out. Really concentrate on putting some weight on that front ski...) When you get to the end, either pop back around regular or continue your rotation and ride off switch. Whichever is more natural...

That's pretty much it. It takes some practice so don't worry if you don't nail it the first time...
