Some thoughts on EST or Elf Shoe tech

It seems to me that this gives you basicly a ski board to ride on when you not in the pow pow. I am very interested in how est feels in pow pow compared to a normal reverse camber ski. The A1 seems a little silly then, because it is designed for park and the only time you could take advantge of it would pe presses or butters. The rest of the time it would be like ridding park on skiboards. Maybe I am way off and this is the next big thing in skiing Anyone with experience skiing them or thoughts on the matter lets here em.

If you don't know what I am talking about go to armadas web site.

I am not exactly sure what armada refers to when they talk about Elf shoe tech, if it is just the taper or the taper and the rocker combined. whatever it is the rest of the world calls it taper and rocker, taper is where the ski starts to get narrower at the contact points instead of at the tip and tail when the ski is rockered. so the s7, jj, brocker, and a few others have taper, where as skis such as the Hellbent and EP are just rockered. Taper is a good thing. alows the ski to ski straighter then it really is.

I am pretty sure that the whole idea of Elf Shoe Tech is the idea that there is camber underfoot.

So along with rockered tips and tails and some weird taper, having some camber underfoot is supposed to (and does) give you much more control on groomers.

Tried out the 08-09 JJs at a demo days, review is in my sig if you want to take a look.

lots of rockered skis have traditional camber underfoot and I don't see any connection to elf shoes and camber under foot.

dammit why do companies have to come up with funny names instead of using words we all know like, rocker, camber and taper.

OK having breifly looked at armada's descirption on the website, my understanding is that it's the comination of a traditional camber (and sidecut) underfoot with the rockered profile further towards the tips and the tails. This vaugely corresponds to the shape of an elf's shoe. I might be way out on that tho.
