Some serious sharpie issues

Just a little bit of a background: I was home alone all last week while my family was in Florida, and needless to say many a festivity went down in my house. I managed to get everything cleaned up except for a 4 inch sharpie marker stain on my parents living room sofa which just so happens to be white (the marker is black). If anyone has any advice on how I could possibly get this stain it would be greatly appreciated and if by some miracle it actually worked your karma will shoot through the roof. I'm feeling like right now its a lost cause, the stain occured on thursday night so I'm assuming its nice and settled in by now.

Also, my basement smells like a high school parking lot on 420 so I'm just letting it air out a bit, any other advice?

if the stain is on a cushion, you could just flip the cushion over and hope they don't notice, but you probably would already have done that if you could.

ferbreeze the basement. and light some matches maybe, it consumes scents.

and if you cant get the stain out just think of a bomb ass excuse, thats pretty easy. just say you were writing on something and then dropped the sharpie or whatever.

Thanks a lot for everything guys, I tried various products with high alcohol content and I think that any opportunity I had to get this stain out has passed, I should have removed it sooner.

ya just let ur basement air out also if theres a shower down there have one and lather up nicely with the door open it works wonders

for the basement, pour a ton of baking soda on the carpet, let it sit for a day or 5 and then vaccuum it all up. it absorbs bad smells, thats why people keep an open box of it in the fridge. we did that to get the smoke out of our apartment when we moved in and it worked like a charm.
as for the sharpie, good luck.

if the sofa is white white throw some bleach on it and scrub. but if its leather i dont know if it would fuck it up or not.

FEBREEZE for the basement. works every time

For the couch use some bleach, that will probably work.

For the basement, take a bunch of bounce sheets/ anti-static laundry thingers (w/e you call em) and put them on the radiators or in the vents, your basement will smell like fresh laundry in no time.

You can try some bleach, I do'nt know if that will work or not though. One thing that definitely removes sharpie is a solvent known as 'Acetone' which is what nail polish is made out of. Find some nail polish, if you can find some high concentration. Try that, make sure you blot it, don't rub it! That can just make it worse. Acetone will also dry really fast, if you use a hairdryer it would probably be dry in like 2 minutes.

Oh and I should add, I work in a chem lab and we use sharpie all the time. Acetone will take it right out and shouldn't stain especially cause it's white. The only reason it won't take it out is if the sharpie was an 'industrial grade' which then is pretty much permanent.

Not really, I say use nail polish because it's probably the easiest way for him to get acetone which works best, but now a days alot of nail polishs are 'acetone free' and have a bunch of other crap because acetone is considered to be a slight neurotoxin.

let the basement air out bigtime, and blow some fans down there and light some candles. and if it still smells then actually cleaning the room isn't a bad idea (ie vacuuming, scrubbing etc.) and a bleach pen could probably take out the stain pretty well
