Some people just don't understand the work that goes into photography/videography...

hahah I just realized i won't be able to hot swap to my t2i on my glidecam the way it's currently weighted for my 5d3 + Grip + Rode VMP + 16-35

unless I threw a 70-200 and a 2lb dumbbell

Little pro tip, stop trying to prove yourself by the gear you own. Any jackass can buy multple camera bodies and lenses.

And seriously, what the fuck are these suggestions? Are you guys being serious?

I think he was just demonstrating that he has made a significant investment in his business. He even said that most importantly he knows how to use his gear.

Sorry kid, you you have to start somewhere. First of all, should have taken the $50. To start a "client" base, you need to work with what you can get, can't be too cocky. Hanging up on them isn't the best way to start. Plus, $20 a cd is a lot of cash, could have made some good money. good luck

Even though this is old, some advice for the future.

Instead of hanging up, explain that you can't do it for $50, but you'd be happy to send them a quote for what you could do it for and possibly meet somewhere in middle. You never know, they could have been very reasonable but just didn't know any better. Instantly getting mad and hanging up is the absolute worst thing you can ever do, in any situation. Your shit stinks too, remember that. Sell yourself, most of the time for wedding photography, people have no clue what a good photographer is worth. You have to sell that service to them. Even if they were assholes, being one back does nothing for you except softly stroke your ego.

Emphasis. If it becomes clear that they won't pay my price, I just politely decline, or sometimes recommend someone cheaper if they're a client that could possibly have a higher budget on a future project.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for being an asshole in the right settings, but you also need to have the sense not to shit where you eat.

were you mad because he didnt take your cheap offer and he hung up on you?

But seriously, god damm those are some cheap mother truckers!

Lets keep it going with some cheap client stories, they were great at the begining.

I once was offered to edit a guys videoclip he shot. In order to give him an estimate, I needed to look at the footage so i could know how much time I would have to spend editing. The guy had 25GB of the worse out of focus high iso bullshit recordings I have ever seen. I called up the guy, told him that there was a lot of footage and that I would need to cover up the iso noise with some heavy effects, denoising and maybee overlaying things to distract from the noise. I told him this would take me at least 50 hours to edit, at a regular wage of 20$/h that would bring him up to $1000. I then told him I was looking for some contracts and would be alright doing it for $600 which is just a bit over minimum wage.

The guy then freaks out on me and says "man I was thinking I would give you 100 bucks, plus I know tonnes of big producers and labels, I will get you tonnes of work after this!"

At this price, I told him that it would mean I would work for 2$ an hour, which is not even acceptable wage for children in china. I then tried to get him to understand the value and to re consider his price. He then gives me a speach about how everyone is doing editing and that my stuff is "mediocre at best"

Then I lost it, I told him everything wrong with his footage, how it was the worse lack of skill in shooting I Have ever seen, that no amount of post production can ever make a good video with the crap he produced, told him to enjoy the shitty video he gets and to fuck off.

Very relevant, all about pricing and contracts, red flags with clients. Jared's camera reviews are meh, but these audio podcasts are killer!
