anyone else watching it?...talkin about how NASA knows of an asteriod that will hit earth october 13th 2029...and if it misses, itll go into orbit and hit us 7 years later...i dont wanna believe it

fuck u, i was more worried about the asteroid thing...

but the aztec were retarded...THEY SACRIFICED VIRGINS...i dont care wut got u have...never sacrifice a virgin...unless theres a reason noone wants to boink her

There is NO WAY you can predict that shit. NASA is the same organization spending billions of dollars preparing for the Y2K bug...

Im in such a good mood right now i dont care, i have 20 years, by then ill be 34, past my prime, not such a bad time to die.

Funny that you mention that but lets think logically here for a second. If Y2K did indeed happen and NASA didn't spend a dime in preparation wouldn't you be blaming NASA for not doing anything?

I hear preperation leads to good things because money doesn't replace human lives. Hell if we had some preperation for a huge disaster in New Orleans we wouldn't be blaming FEMA for shit.

yeah I heard they already have plans to divert it so it misses.

I've also heard 2012 is predicted by many to be "the end of days".

guess we'll just have to see.

yes there is. the asteroid is moving in a straight line because there are no outside forces to stop it, unless another asteroid hits it or something.. basically by looking into the future you can predict where the earth will be once the asteroid is within range, and there's always the chance earth will be in its way.

i know it is serious and all but i think it is funny how people look at the end of the world. I mean if ithere is no avoiding it then lets live it up, drink crystal, and fuck some bitches.

its total bullshit, i remember back in like 2000 or somewhere around their they were saying a meteor may hit 2004 but there will be one to hit 2006, so far no meteor... and as far as we no none is going to hit.. nasa should stand for "Not Astronimers Stupid Assholes" cause thier like the media, just trying to scare people.

i hate all this propaghanda shit, i absolutley hate it, why dont you people jsut go one year at a time, then see what happens in 2029?

i also heard that like on june 6, 2006 the lord of the underworld would arrise, and look how that turned out

Realisticly, I think the chances of an asteroid coming near us are pretty good but colliding with the earth is little less likely. Even if the asteriod comes within one hundred throusand kilometers that is extremely close relative to outerspace where things are trillions of kilometers apart. I think Nasa is predicting an asteroid coming our way and since it is coming close to us, there is a change that it could hit us.

That's not exactly true, small changes in the sun's shape, gravitational field, solar wind, and a variety of other factors can make it hard to predict the exact path of a near-earth asteroid.

And to reply to LE.Skiing. Asteroids hit the Earth all the time, but most are too small to matter much. Here's a quote from wikipedia that gives a rough esitmate of asteroid-earth collisions,"Asteroids with a 1 kilometre diameter hit the Earth a few times in each million year interval. Large collisions with 5 kilometre objects happen approximately once every ten million years. Small collisions occur a few times each month." Here's a couple of the larger asteroids that came very close to the Earth:

"On March 23, 1989 the 300 metre (1,000-foot) diameter Apollo asteroid 4581 Asclepius (1989 FC) missed the Earth by 700,000 kilometres (400,000 miles) passing through the exact position where the earth was only 6 hours before. If the asteroid had impacted it would have created the largest explosion in recorded history." (Wikipedia)

"On March 18, 2004, LINEAR announced a 30 metre asteroid 2004 FH which would pass the Earth that day at only 42,600 km (26,500 miles), about one-tenth the distance to the moon, and the closest miss ever noticed. They estimated that similar sized asteroids come as close about every two years." (Wikipedia)

Additionally the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 collied with Jupiter on July 16, 1994 emphising that such an event can occur.

As a "documentary" on ABC is hardly a quality source of information I recommend those interested look at the following pages at wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_impact

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_deflection_strategies

A cataclysmic asteroid impact event is possible, however, there is no reason to panic and try to estimate the end of the world. Anyways I just wanted to clear the waters on the issue.

I agree with Mitch, it is way to difficult to predict an astrological event that far off in the future. To give context to my claim, I cite the example of the Deep Impact prodject, something that occured just a short time ago.

For those not in the know, we hit an asteroid with a probe as it passed by to better ascertain the composition of the aforementioned celestial bodies. As one could imagine the calculations had to be prescise, but what is unusual is any adjustments had to be made by computer. Why you ask? The reason being is that the asteroid (while approaching the probe) went from the perspective size of a grain of sand, to the size of Texas in aproximatly 10 seconds. No human could ever hope to hit a target moving at such a wild speed, and they would never try.

Outer space is still a large mystery to us, and to predict such sunsational garbage is irrisponsible of ABC.

That's such bullshit. There's a rating system on asteroids and their chances of hitting Earth. It's a 1-10 system where 10 is kiss your ass goodbye. Anyways, aside from that near miss in 2004, no asteroid has ever been higher than a 2.

i say we go and punch the scientists who made that prediction in the face .. and as you leaving them on the ground kick them in the stomach and be like thats for pluto.. Dick!

i hate it when people tell me a calendar is going to end. there are probably about one million ancient calendars, all that end at some point. most have ended, nothing happened. so don't tell me about a calendar stopping.

i watched that too. last night it was 20/20 and it was april 13 pretty fucked up its supposed to just miss us tho

that wuld just turn one big ateroid into a hundered little ones which wuld be worse. the only way is to use another objects gravitational pull to nudge the asteroid out of its orbital path

No that wouldn't work because it's a gay idea. All we have to do is send Keanu Reeves up there and he'll take care of the rest.
