Solstice Party/Illumination Rock 2021

It’s my 3rd year in Oregon but my first spring skiing Mt. Hood.

Summer pass isn’t really something I can afford this year, I’m planning on heading back home for a while this summer anyways.

I want to make the Illumination rock party the day before I make the drive back home to MN. Seems like a blast and a good day to buy a day pass and then hike up past Palmer.

Is it usually right on the summer solstice (June 20th, Sunday)?

Thanks.

Yup it’s all day on the solstice. Definitely a good day to buy a ticket and then hike up at closing and hang out for a while. Or just bootpack/skin up from the lot if you're into that. Theres usually a jump built up there and a ton of people partying. Sunset is also worth sticking around for imo. Bring lots of water, food, sunscreen, and warm clothing

I'll be there!

Never been before- how is the hike from the top of palmer in boots? Just want to make sure I don't need to bring touring skis and that my snowboarding homie who is joining wont be postholing the entire way up there

I watched a vid of some snowboarders bootpacking it. Did not look too bad. If I went (probably won't make it) I was going to bring my snowboard instead of lugging skis since I don't have a touring setup.

did the hike a couple weeks ago and it isn't bad, we hiked pretty much straight up from palmer and then traversed over, took like 30 minutes probably less if your in better shape and traverse lower down then we did (ended up like 200 vert above it).

would def recommend a bag that you can rig your skis/board on though, one of our homies had to shoulder his stuff and that seemed pretty shit

Mile park is open on Sundays, it's just the pro park that closes, right? I'm tryna buy a pass to ski some park in the morning and also hike from the top of palmer as I'd rather be on my park skis than my touring setup

I don't think "pro park" is open yet. Unless they're counting that as the half pipe on Mile.

Yeah ik it's not open I was just making sure that they don't do the sunday closure for mile park like they do for the lanes once they're open

I don't work sundays but I'm pretty sure that park is open. My friends work sundays so idk what they'd be doing if it's not open.

Well, first time for me and I gotta say that was one of the best things I've done.

Hope to make it next year!

What a friggin good time! Eating a big meal at the brewery and slamming ipas right before was a poor strategy but i made it up bartering beers for waters.

Ran into old friends met new freinds. Sick time. Slice left thumb picking up garbage so if this is spelled terribly whatever
