Solomon Z12 bindings: need info

Might be picking up a pair soon but I don't no much about the binding besides its din and features etc.. What can you guys tell me from your personal experiences with the bindings? Should I pull the trigger or wait and find another pair? What do you recommend?

What is your budget there are much better bindings for not a lot of money so knowing what you have set aside to spend will help

I think the Z12's are Salomon's equivalent to the Marker Griffon. I have two pairs of Griffon's and I've never had any problems with them. I like them. I've never skied Z12's though. I hope this helps, good luck man and have a sick season.

170 6'2 i blow apart z12 bindings...step up and get the new sth..hands down one of the best bindings ever made. The reason i say that is because they are built super well, they are very adjustable, and the newer design is nice and wide. I personally really don't like marker bindings i have had nothing but problems with the pairs i have owned.

Id honestly beef up to the sth 13. Might be a lot better of with them and you could keep them for a bit longer. They aren't much more expensive especially if you find a deal on them.

the ti heel is such a piece of shit, the plastic base is super prone to cracking. The current sth 12 with the sth heel and oversize toe is a solid option if you're on a budget. Or look for some cheap Tyrolias in the same din range.

The whole Z series are a piece of plastic shite, Z14's as well.

Don't give advice if you haven't used it or have any exp of it. The Z12 is an utter piece of shit, the Griffon is ok if your a lighter rider. I have used both.

Z12s are so bad my friend gave me a pair and mounted them up for free. I put them on some skis from 1980 that I only use on gaper day. I wouldn't use those bindings unless you intend on blowing them apart.

I suck. When looking for Griffon's, I was suggested Z12's. OP, I was just trying to help you out. Fail. I'm sorry guys. Now I know they're equal to Squire's.

I had Salomon z10s and I loved them. Still going strong on another pair of skis with no issues. So last season I picked up a pair of z12s thinking they'd be the same. Boy was I wrong. First thing I noticed, was how heavy they were. I had pipe cleaners, and these things weighed them down so much. Another con was that they were relatively fragile. I broke the steel plate twice. And the break had a habit of popping off. One time I noticed that the heel peice was tilted slightly. Took them to the shop, where they had to pretty much remount them. Overall, I wouldn't reccomnend z12s. They are like Salomon's squire. Go with pivots/STH/FKS bindings.

Not its not, all Markers are a bit of a faff but it was no harder than my Jesters, they were on my mates skis that I borrowed for the day, he weights about half what I do and has never had an issue with them. If your having issues stepping into Griffons then you need to eat more.

You sure you aren't from the states and just trying to throw us off with the casual mate? Obesity is not the answer. I'm about 125 lbs and griffons suck dick to step into. Its alright tho, because I don't ski marker.

Anyway, if OP can't spring for sth/fks, as has been previously stated solid tyrolia bindings can be found for cheap on the interwebs

Certainly not from the states, one is from Scotland, nor am I fat, I am 6'4 and 90kgs though, years of rowing built me up in the proper way. Your only 56kg, hell some of the kids I know weigh more than that and they only use Free Ten's. Closest adult I know to that who rides park is only on squires. the lot who are light (60-72kgs) all on Griffons and the like with no issues. Then again even at your weight you should be able to step into Markers with no problems. Some of the girls I know who are your weight ride them with no issues.

I had squires last season (FML) and used them for the sumer because i got new skis. I was even having trouble stepping into them. I took off the brakes to clean them and noticed they got a little loose. I cleaned them up because they had some dirt then put them back on and had zero issues. I basically put my boot on it and it clicked just fine. Maybe you should check your brakes to see if they are loose or have any dirt/muck/cum or whatever. Ive stepped into griffons twice and had no issues and I'm like 115lbs

The marker heal mech isn't great and clogs with dirt. I cleaned and greased my Jesters as they were also used on dry slopes and that really fucks with bindings. I'm not going to post how or what I used to clean them as it isn't an approved method but its based on similar parts in motorsport and what I used on my cars.

I find the mechs on my other bindings far nicer (FFG14 drivers and Peak 18's).
