Solitude??

Anyone ski at solitude or have any input on the resort? I have an opportunity to get a free pass/ job there and i am wondering if it would be worth it. I am used to skiing alta, snowbird, and a little bit of brighton. How does solitude compare and what are the pros and cons??

solitude is really fun. to tell you the truth the only con is the park there is pretty much nothing but you shouldnt have to worry about park if your there, there is amazing close boundry backcountry, its never crowded, powder days many days after the actual storms it gets tracked very very slowly. overall its a pretty fun place. i live up in big cottonwood and work at brighton let me know when your up there and we can shred. and what job you think you are getting?

not worried about the drug test. But i'll most likely be set up working at the front desk in the condos and then when the season starts be a lifty.
Thanks for the input! If I end up there, I'll hit you up, it would be nice to have someone show me the sweet spots. Short lines and extended pow days makes me feel very optimistic about solitude. Also, I am sort of wondering about the terrain. Anyone have word on that?

to me, i ski alta too, solitudes runs are shorter but they have lots of steep stuff and good trees but probably the most fun you'll have is out in honeycomb

^^^^ there is a whiz quiz, but it's more like an intelligence test to weed out those that aren't smart enough to pass one, and returning employees don't have to take one.

Work 12 seasons @ sillytude call it that cause the owners/management tend to do a lot of silly things. Place has changed a lot in that time, but what hasn't. Overall a chiller vibe than the lcc and a few less people, but don't believe the marketing hype, On pow days if the lcc isn't open by 8ish or traffic is backed up to the sev there is gonna be lift lines. You can tell if 210's open by the # of alta stickers in the lift line. the lift systems bizzare which is a pro and a con. You don't have the easy quick vert of the tram but easy quick vert = tracked up fast. The park well ya know anything labeled as family friendly is gonna suck. The terrain a good mix from the gnar of the east face of honeycomb and the FR shots (nothing like a no fall somtimes sketchy booter to keep beaters out of terrain they shouldn't be on) to some steep groomers on the front side. lots of pockets features and pow stashes in honeycomb. The front side terrain grows old pretty fast most of the goods are off summit. the front side honeycomb gates can be gear thrashing under about a 80" or so base and are short. If you have bc skills/gear & partners tlp, wolverine, and sillyfork are easily acessible and kick ass, pretty much what kept me there so long. The powder days after a storm thing is true depending on what and when patrol opens things but like anything the more effort bootering or traversing the more you'll find. I'd tell ya how to access some of these stashes C "b", "A" trees as in bring your A game, steep and talls, ortavox, etc but that'd take the fun out of it. I will say I perfer the terrain off EGP to honeycomb and about equal effort to acess them. Good peeps all around have fun meet some who knows the place you'll dig it. I'd try to keep the slr gig or find somethin aside from bumpin chairs and don't get on Bets's bad side (wink)

I don't know anything about working there really except my friend who was a lifty and liked it.
Skiing wise the only places with some decent cliffs and turns are going to be as you start to traverse towards honeycomb there are a couple cool areas and some cliffs. Also skiers right of the summit there is the headwall area and a bit skiers right of that are some more cliffs. Gets pretty steep and rocky in there so it can get techy but it's not like some of the areas in LCC. Fantasy ridge always makes for a good time as well.

I LOVE Solitude.. i grew up there started racing on their "devo team" aka shit squad.. haha my dad aunt grandpa sister uncle and myself have all worked there or still work there... I'd choose Solitude over any other mtn! besides the late spring days when a park sesh is fun i usually cruise over to the pc side.. but still if you know where to go witch is easy when you start rollin with a crew that works there they will show you all the good stashes.
