Sochi Pipe Thread

This, so much!

Remember he also have the switch double, so it would not be impossible for him to reach a bronze medal. Sadly, it's not very likely though.

agreed.

Mary needs to stop posting until she recovers mentally from the US freesiing program ruining her family holiday by not putting wallisch in sochi.

First of all, it's different coaches with different philosophies. To be honest I didn't really think there was high expectations of Torin at all, it was known he wouldn't be skiing 100%. Sure he's got a Visa commercial and has gotten a lot of media attention for non-ski related things, but I wouldn't say there was huge expectations and it's not his fault.

He laced a great run but got caught up in slushy snow riding switch, it's bound to happen and literally could've happened to anyone. Just look at how David skied, he didn't look comfortable or confident at all like he normally does.

Furthermore there's a huge difference between recovering from a torn acl and a couple broken ribs. HUGE. I still stand by the fact that Torin should've been the coaches choice. Shit happens.

definitely the weather, pipe is always exciting to watch when the weather and pipe are good.

So... No Torin OR Lyman in finals?!?? then i truly no longer give a fuck about this competition and don't have to tune in. thanks

In what universe was the weather perfect for slope? I mean it's shittier for pipe, but this is revisionist. The slope course was baked in sun and slushy especially at the bottom, and while people weren't coming up short speed still factored into things quite a bit, i.e. Jossi's runs. Lots of riders suffered in slope because of the weather, especially Henrik. I doubt he sketches that last landing if you moved the course to Aspen or whatever.

I'll say this: slope is currently more diverse than pipe in that there are more guys at that elite or near elite level. Just look at the invitees for the USA... in slope, they leave maybe the best park skier on earth and the X Games silver medalist at home. In pipe, there's room on the team Aaron Blunck, who will be good in a few years but clearly isn't there yet.

Anyway, disappointed that there will be no Torin. For me, I would have given him a low to mid 70's score even with the fall. Prior to that, the run was high 80's, and a 10-ish point deduction for not being able to ride out of the bottom of the pipe seems fair to me. 40ish is a bit much. But I understand them doing it.

Not sure if Dorey's going to be able to stick that run again in the conditions but I hope he gets it on the first try to take the pressure off a bit. Would be nice to see a Canadian medal here.

This needs to stop. Wallisch would not have done as well as Joss. Get over it! Torin is a beast. hes got tricks to tope them all. Tom does not.

If your opnion is that someone should not have an opinion i think its safely agreed that opinion is absolute horseshit. Especially when your talking about one of the most knowledgeable passionate followers like mary.
Most of her statement was reguarding torin not wallisch. The comparison was relevant. I respect your opinion if it is that wallisch shouldnt have made it in. I think your a complete dumbass if your opinion is that mary should STFU.

I beg to differ, Wallisch would have had at least two dubs- very likely three (and 1 unnatural) in his run. Tom could have topped Joss's rail line as well. Wally is likely the only skier in the world who could have beat Joss.

Tom the skier bombing every competition this season? Yeah man if he was in the comp I bet he could have even snuck a triple in the rail line.

youve obviously never had a rib injury. Not only will Torin feel that every time he hits the compression of the pipe. Also there is nothing you can do to rehab from a rib injury. You can ski much better without an ACL then with broken ribs.

Joss obviously earned his spot and I'm very happy for him!! He's one of the kindest, humble guys out there, and with the trials of losing his father and all, GOOD FOR HIM!! I'm proud of all 3 of those amazing skiers gracing the Slopestyle podium, making history on Slopestyle's debut!

My point is, Tom was injured, yet fought hard through the pain at each and every qualifier with a compromised knee, yet wasn't given the pick. While Torin also had a very painful injury causing him to miss every qualifier, yet he got the pick. Just isn't really consistant, that's all.

Anyway,

Are you guys seriously still talking about this?

Dude no one cares, I doubt Wally even wants people talking about this shit anymore.

We seem to be stuck on continuous medals ceremonies. And everyone on stage looks absolutely drenched.

Pipe finals have started and this is the pipe thread. Everyone shut up about slope.

Noah up now.

did you watch him ski the comps this season? honestly , he just didnt look like himself. wasnt skiing nearly as clean as he usually does. and you think he would have had 2-3 triples? lol .

Great run from Jossi but needed one more hit, IMO.

Also, very surprised that Riddle didn't get scored higher with two doubles, even if he didn't land the second one clean.
