So this kid in my english class

we were supposed to wirte a paper on patriotism and today we read them all in class and im in honors english so we have a lot of nerdy kids so he says that after 9/11 we had "Too much patriotism" and thats why we went to war with iraq and we should get out of there now.

SO me being the extremely conservative person that i am stands up and questions this kid about how dumb and opinionated his paper was and why he thought of these facts and my friend sitting next to me who is also conservative just starts tearing this kid apart it was hilarious

What are your thoughts ns are you liberal or conservative and what are your thoughts on the war??

Haha, oh my god. You can't see how our government took blind and overzealous patriotism to lead us into an unjust war? Its not like its the first time something like this has happened.

well any paper on patriotism is an opinion paper so it should be opinionated ass hole. and i do think we have too much patriotism now. fuck half the people that have these patriot feeling dont even know who the commander general is. and all this support the troop shit. of course we all support the troops fuck no one intentionally wants someone else to die. i agree with this paper. and why the hell would you rip this kid apart you were able to share your opinion without someone being an ass hole and asking you why you think the way you do. and im willing to bet mooney that your paper sounded exactly like every other paper in the class. didnt it? this kid said what he felt an then you rip him apart for being different. leave him alone he'll think what he wants to think. dont question him. and im guessing how well he did defending his paper. im willing to bet in a real debate he would own both of you two.
 
because half of you fuck bush kids have no idea whats really going on and do it because its a fad and the cool thing to do. notice i said half of you i will say have legit knowledge of whats going on and ipersonally dont mind whats going becuse we rid the world of a horrible man. But it bugs me when people say fuck bush and shit and have no idea why they are saying it and you can tell they are saying it to fit in. it really pisses me off
 
well first of all before you went and made mass generalizations i didnt tear the kid apart my friend did and this paper had to have some facts and like i said the kids paper was completly opinionated. he didnt say anything about supporting the troops or the war and my paper didnt sound like everybody elses so stop making such huge generalizations
 
I think that anyone who believes that they are either a conservative or liberal, or a little bit of both, is dumb.
 
that actually sounds like myself and Alpine3 in class. The two of us are the only conservative kids in my school and used to sit there in honors english and rip kids apart, and even teachers. good job.
 
I love Government. Everyone in my class is either Hardcore conservative or koolaid drinking liberal. I'm probably the only moderate one. I usually pwn in debates though because I have taken debate and you learn good debating skills on NS actually. Alot of people on here are really great at debating.
 
Waving flags doesn't have anything to do with this. It's about the policies morons support because they feel like they are more important than the rest of the world and like to be on the winning team...war isnt a goddamn sport.

No one benefits from it except the companies making the weapons/stealing resources. I saw an estimate that the war cost a family of 4 $20,000...so far. I wonder where that money went. Oh yea, corporate coffers.

Because a large percentage of our country supported killing hundreds of thousands of people when they really didn't know what the fuck was going on. "Yea, lez kil dem A-rab sand neggers!"

In about ten years you'll run into that kid again and bring this incident up. It'll be like "Hey dude! Remember that time in english class when you wrote that paper and I said it was stupid and we laughed at you? Wasn't that great?" To which he will reply, "Yeah... listen, can I have my Big Mac meal please, I'm kind of in a hurry."
 
war is good for the economy its a proven fact so it benifits many people. but my cousin is in he army so i also feel the downside as well.
 
unless the paper was on your thoughts on patriotism then it wouldn't necessarilly be an opinion paper. What if it was to write about patriotism and how it has affect the economy? military action? or how "surges" of it come about, maybe defining patriotism, how the rest of the world views a countrys patriotism from the outside....

and I'm willing to bet that either every other kids paper in the class sounded like the others whose parents watch CBS news at night, read the New York Times and are huuuuge fans of what Rosie O'Donnell being lesbian has done for society. Kids listen to what their parents tell them when it comes to politics becasue thats what they hear and form their opinions on.

And again, I'm willing to bet that in a debate the kid would flop because when writing his paper he put in opinion without realizing it because it was in the shitty sources that he used(ie: wiki, google etc.
 
What the fuck is with everyone's obsession with siding with a party and staying with them no matter what? I'm so sick of kids that are so anxious to jump on any political debate and shove their opinions down someone's throat, regardless of the party they associate themselves with. I remember this one kid in my English class freshman year who was so concerned with coming off as an "intelligent conservative" that he took every chance he could get, and a couple he had no right taking, to push his own political agenda in everyone's face. Unfortunately for him, he was far from intelligent, and had the hardest time coming off that way. The idiot was so concerned with being the next Rush Limbaugh that even when someone with more knowledge of politics than him completely shut him down with logic, the kid would just say something dumb like, "Well I don't care, that's your problem." He would actually go out of his way to come off as a racist, sexist, bigot. Stop worrying so much about arguing all the issues in favor of your chosen party, take the time to think the issue through, and formulate your own opinion. Then, before you go and get into every argument you can, stop yourself again, say, is this worth it? What will I gain from this? Will I actually sway this person's opinion my way? Is it worth both my time and theirs?
 
we need tanks, bullets, guns ect. in large amounts which will create more jobs which increases spending which helps the economy.

Communism& Terrorism are not physical enemies. So it doesn't really apply for the war on Iraq.
 
See, I dont have a problem with somebody having a differing opinion than me. good for them. I just cant stand when people jump on a ban wagon without understanding what people are arguing or fighting about. Truthfully, of all of the people that hate our administration right now, how many do you thing actually bother to understand what is happening? not a whole not, and its a shame.

I dont get mad when people have a differing opinion, I respect their opinion, as lopng as they stick to it and have a reason for it.
 
this isn't really a debate...this is more of killing the people who posted their thoughts and ideas Oh yeah, and alot of cussing. Just because you are liberal or conservative dosn't mean you support or neglect the conflict in iraq. Those are generlizations, as for me i'm conservative and know alot of people that have gotten shot in iraq. But we can't exactly pull out because if we do the exact same thing that happened to vietnam will happen to iraq. Like it or not, were in it. but i understand it would be a good idea to pull out, but I just don't even want to imagine the outcome of the innocent people who are sunni and shiet, it will be a civil war like you wouldn't belive
 
haha wow this isnt WWII where its a nation wide effort to support the war...where mothers are going to work in B-52 factories. It is all private weapons contractors which puts money in the rich owners pockets. You think 3.5 trillion in debt is a great thing for the economy? 
 
Believe it or not some people had enough sense to oppose the Iraq war from the start. The International Atomic Energy Agency told you Iraq did not have WMDs, but you believed a trustfund baby with a resume that looks like this...

All you have to do is look at history and realize that except in the case of ongoing mass genocide that no wars that I can think of have actually benefited the people.
 
The economy we participate in today is vastly different than the one we had in WWII.

Then it took a workforce of millions and millions of people to get all our equipment made and shipped out. Factories were hiring anyone willing to work. Everyone was getting a piece of that war money.

Today with IT technology, mechanization, and tight supply chain management there isn't that huge labor class sharing in the $$. They don't need human labor like they used to. It goes straight to management/CEO. This is basically the direction capitolism will continue to go will massive corporate mergers and multinationals. They cut out the middleman.

I'm consrevative and I've noticed the general trend is an anti-war, liberal, hate bush thing. But most people say they hate bush but they just say it almost like a popularity thing.

Oh my God. Some of you guys are so ignorant and dwell too much in one area. We needed to check on Iraq because Horney Clinton didn't. Clinton wanted to be popular which he succeeded in because he didn't invade Iraq OR Afghanistan. Clinton even said they had the same exact intelligence. Did you see what happened? There was a fucking terrorist attack. No one likes our guys over there being killed. You make it seem as though Bush is some kind of murdurer. But they need to be over there for order, AND they are training their police. People, stop looking at this war as something so negative and evil. My dad showed me a video last night of an A-10 pilot taking down 4 terrorists two miles above, and to tell you the truth it was very disturbing. Whoever doesn't appreciate what the troops are doing for you need to rot in hell. Bush is just doing the job Clinton didn't do.
 
Maybe everyone knew they had WMDs in 1980, but most were smart enough to realize that they were all used/degraded by now.

However, I think the general blatant ignorance of our intelligence leading into Iraq guns blazing looking for WMDs to find there was none damaged our reputation, therefore I completely disagree because the so-called "mission" has changed to mediating an Iraqi civil war instead of protecting the welfare of countrys in the middle east from threat of a nuclear attack.
