Stevan Harper is the new prime minister of Canada. What do you guys think? I voted green party(i want my snow)

Im with you on that one. I know people were predicting this, but Im shocked that canadians chose this. I know the scandal was bad, but our economy was strong and i thought the Liberals represtend Canada well with world affairs well. All I have to say is Canada will be a new country for better or worse (I think worse).

All I have to say is if he touches the gay issues, and abortions I will be pissed. He has no right to that.

Well i guess its time I go buy a gun, and attend church more often.
 
i'm soooooooooo happy that it's only a minority. at least we're not going to war (although this is bq dependant, and i don't really know their stance on iraq, i have a feeling that they'll vote against any motion to send our troops their).

and to whoever said the Liberals represent Canada well in the World is a fucking idiot. We pretty much have no representation in the World. No one cares what we say. We hardly peacekeep anymore (18th in the world and we invented the concept).

I'm glad the Tories are in, and you've got to be stupid to think that Abortion is going to be an issue in a Minority Parliament. Start learning about politics.
 
i'll be honest, i didnt even know canada had a govt. i just thought whoever made the best maple sycrupe(sp?) got to make a law
 
Actually, everyone but the NDP lost tonight pretty much... I mean, the conservatives ended up with what, 30 seats fewer than they expected? So it could be worse... but I am on some level ashamed to have Harper as PM. I don't have any respect for him, and to be honest, I think he's a horrible person. But that's just me.

Like I say, hopefully the Libs overhaul the party and win it back in 2 years or whenever Harper calls a new election (like 2 years or so), they'll have to rush, but they can manage.
 
I voted green as well, I am super mad right now, even though we all saw it coming. I just can't believe who would vote for that guy. I also can't believe how red neck alberta is with every single riding being won by about 10000 votes by conservative.

Oh well I guess pot won't be decriminalized, we will be fighting in Iraq, we will have missle defence, cbc will be gone ect. ect. Hopefully because they only have a minority they will stay in check
 
Damn.. I hate how everyone bashes the conservatives, everyone always criticizes Harper for his looks which is the noobest thing you can do, and his stand is actually semi intelligent.

if you actually reseach the guy youll find hes a very intelligent person who i think will do a good job, hes an economist for a reason, and i wouldnt be too worried about the tax cut, as for his stand, i think the Liberal party's greatest mistake was disassociating ourselves from the Americans so much; We'd do well to at least try and repair some of the ties weve broken, theyre our greatest and most powerful neighbor and we cant overlook that, so much of our economy depends on them.

We definately aren't going to get involved in iraq, even if Harper was foolish enough to try itd never get past parliament, and a leader from the west is a welcome change, Ontario and Quebec can benefit from the entrepeneurial standpoint of Alberta, its a wealthy province with a strong work ethic.

we'll just have to wait and see, personally i have a positive outlook

I actually have researched him, some of his speeches, interviews... and you're right, he is smart. So smart that former CA leader Preston Manning once said that he has trouble accepting that anyone else could possibly be as smart as him. Which will make it hard for him to stay consistent with his own statement, "If you want to be a government in a minority Parliament, you have to work with other people"...

If you're right in thinking we need to get closer to the USA, then he's definitely the man for the job... even the slightest research into his background and his body of political opinion suggests that he's the biggest fanboy of America ever to bear the mantle of Prime Minister.

As for Iraq, I hope you're right, but... he did say "I don't know all the facts on Iraq, but I think we should work closely with the Americans", among about a dozen other statements suggesting in no uncertain terms that we should be over there.
 
NDP fucked British Columbia for years, Liberals Fucked Canada. I can see why some of you are scared of Harper, he is the opposite of Trudeau and a pro Alberta Man. Honest this guy wants whats best for Canada. Hes not going to get much of his own agenda done, especially being a minority but he honeslty was the best choice for PM. After the Scandals and the Lies you cannot allow the Liberals power, they will just fuck everyone over and do it again. Jack Layton was a moron, and greens to small. Harper was the best vote.

cuz i f it was the liberals ur an idiot, they stole billions of dollars in tax payers money. I say we might as well give someone else a try, u never know, and its still only a minority
 
millions of billions I heard, and they didnt steal it.. they just relocated it. and yes thank god it a minority, hopfully harper will screw up and we'll have another early election.
 
I think that since he's in a minority, he has to rely on a more left wing party (Liberal, Bloc, NDP) to pass any laws and that will keep him in line. He does have a few good plans like the federal accountability act and fixing the fiscal imbalance but i dont think he'll be able to pass anything too extreme (getting out of the Kyoto Protocol or joining the nuclear missile defence program for example)because the other parties won't support it for a second.
 
as much as i HATE the tories i do agree with out. abortion and gay marriage arent gunna be an issue in a minority government.
 
gst and the accountability act will be focal points.

gst should come up first because it will make it a harder decision to vote against by the other parties because 1- the liberals need time to reorganize, 2- another election will make us allllll pissed. an interesting year is ahead.
 
atleast its a minorty. give it a year and a half someone else will be elected in and no significant changes will have been made.
 
Fuck now our Government is at a minority again, and it costed us millions of dollars for the ellection. It be cool to have a black prime minister, everyone's too white.
 
I don't know why the liberal scandal thing was such a big deal. Sure they stole a bunch of money, but that was under a previous government. There's always corruption in government, and especially under the Conservatives. Also, the stupid gst thing is a terriblke idea. No one's gunna even notice 5% unless they buy like an expensive car, in which case they'll be fucking rich anyway. Economists say it's only going to make a difference to the government, which means less money for services. Great!
 
please link some scandals the conservatives have made taking away millions of tax payers dollars. you probably dont even pay taxes.
 
Let's be honnest, its not like he can do any worse than the liberals did with Kyoto, they may has well have scraped the thing the way they were going about. Just didnt want to cuz it would have made them look even worse, bunch of douches.

Whatever, Im quite pleased they got in. Conservative minority seemed like the best plausible outcome. Personaly I voted Green...let's just say I start to get concerned when it rains in January and ski conditions are crap
