So NS, how are we feeling about real ski resaults?

I mean it’s totally a thing though. People had been doing back swaps to switch for like a decade before New Wave style got hyped up. Now all of a sudden that trick is super fly and for multiple seasons it was featured in basically every edit made. Just like how the K-Fed used to be a trick that was in every single edit, but now you hardly ever see them because that trend ended and they aren’t seen in the same light that they once were. Tricks can totally be trendy.

I understand that but that doesn’t change the fact that I think calling something “trendy” is lame

An opinion is the direct opposite of a fact, you idiot.

why do you think it's lame?

When you spend 3 years trying to learn a trick and finally learn it only to figure out the trend died it hurts. If there are no trends then i cant not be trendy, ya know.

Because at the end of the day it’s just skiing, it’ll only ever be just skiing. This whole new wave vs old wave bs that’s taken over skiing the last 4 years has gotten really old. Just go out and ski. Who gives a fuck if somebody doesn’t afterbang for 200 ft after a trick, or if somebody wears fitting clothes and moves their arms around while they ski. Trends are gonna happen regardless, people are gonna favor a certain style over another, and things are gonna change but just putting the “trendy” label on something that’s popular is wack in my eyes. I just hate that word and how it’s thrown around at everything these days.

Skiing is weird like that. I used to rollerblade back in the day, and trends would come through and take over the sport pretty much every year, like oh everyone is no grabbing their shit now, or tight pants are cool, or whatever it was, and skateboarding had the same things happen, with fashion and tricks- people just generally went along with what the pros were doing- big surprise. But there was never a trend that came along like new wave that half of the community just thought was stupid AF and hated and had it persist for years. Eventually it’s going to get as tired as gangster style and will have to evolve.

I agree with basically everything you're saying here. As styles have changed over the years, only the most innovative skiers have been remembered, regardless of what's on trend. There are sick skiers that I appreciate from every era of skiing. When I say trendy it's pretty much synonymous with "popular at the current moment." I don't mean it as an insult or anything, but trends do influence the way people think, which IMO is why I think the backlash against mango not podiuming has been especially intense.

aka a bunch of old heads who are past their prime.

Yes! instead of having a judging panel of skiers who actually know what it takes to ski urban, they should've picked some arm waving experts whose only experience of skiing "urban" is jibbing picnic tables and benches. Legit!

ABM's really stood out to me. All were dope in their own way.

I can only watch so much hands in the air skiing. There's a reason there is no "new wave" style in other aspects of skiing.

I agree with Mango being outside of top 3, he did have some technical tricks but there wasn't a lot of high risk/gnarly spots which should (and is) a major factor in the judging. He's super trendy rn so I think that's why people are all up in arms about him not getting top 3.

Also major F with that snowboarding gif, although respect for doing a natas spin on skis that was still sweet to watch.

I agree with Vishnu that mango could have gone over people's heads with some of his tricks. Personally, I found ABM's boring, just like the video definition of a comp skier. I didn't see any tricks that were very creative besides the whale tail one. I personally didn't find Henrik's video to be that great either. It didn't seem to be as creative as 2017. Kimbo had a lot more than I expected, I have always seen him as a Swedish tanner hall for some reason. But he had a lot of great tricks but I thought for a few features he could have done more. B-Dog's was great but seemed more mellow than last year's (probably because of the music) but I loved it like I did LJ's 2018 part. Peyben's was crazy and it was cool to see a lesser-known skier like him just go crazy. My personal podium would have been:

1. Mango

2. Peyben

3. Casabon

This post is a perfect example of how "The Bunch" fanboys have no fucking clue what they're watching. They see something different and automatically assume its better without any knowledge of the tricks being thrown down. Who wants to guess this jackass didn't notice the unnatural nollie lip 2 from Phil or the switch tails 4 onto the legendary and huge concrete ledge by ABM?

Pft, yeah man, so mellow. They coulda done more, so boring.

How about Phil’s MASSIVE backslide lead nose grab... on a fucking close out. Overlooked shot

Ok calm down big man, I'm not saying that Phil's edit wasn't crazy I found his more mellowed out PURELY because of the music. And ABM's tricks were crazy but the video just wasn't original in a way that Casabon's was. ABM's was crazy tricks but with a generic trap beat and boring visuals. This contest isn't just about the skier it's also about the filmer

I’m gonna check this out && nice section Phil. The bail on transfer on kink rail and then stomping it after got me hype as well as the roof top fakie backflip from flat

I'm surprised you're able to type while sucking a French-Canadian dick at the same time.
