So my ON3P Filthy Riches broke today

So here's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Woke up early to get first tracks for once and took out the park skis up to make a few turns before filming in the park shortly after. The time is 8:15 and i just got on the chairlift feeling good about finally making some corduroy turns early into the weekend. 8:30 I get to the top of mountain and start making my way down. Got a nice nose butter in just before i starting making some big wide turns on the 700ft of vertical we have at my home mountain. 600 feet of vertical later the grade of the slope gets a less steep and I started to lay down a nice slow carve out to the right and suddenly, my skis come right out from under me due to my dull edges leading to a release of my left ski right as I slide out on my back about 50 feet on an east coast blue square trail. (Some best skier on the mountain I am...) As I slid, my ski was moving with me and I picked it up right after I stopped. No visible problem at the time and I was perfectly fine. (no cuts/scrapes/anything) Got back in the ski and made my way down to the chairlift with no performance related issues. Got on the chairlift and my buddy, who was one chair back, said it looked like my left ski had more rocker than the other. Unfortunately I knew what that likely meant. I looked back at my ski and saw the cracked top sheet...Of course I was very upset and had lots of different questions to why this happened and the resulting answer I came to was that when the ski released, it turned over to where the bases were facing the sky and jarred the slushy surface of the snow and ended up breaking the top sheet. I figured that this was the only time that the ski would have did what it did since I did a nose butter at the top of the run and was fully supported as I rode away.

I say all of this not as a diss to ON3P at all. There is no question that these skis are absolutely amazing! They ARE my favorite ski and I have bought a pair of Kartel 98's because of how much I enjoyed the Filthy's. What I'm writing this all for is to ask for advice.

With everything said, is there any chance that the ski could be covered under the warranty? They have right around 15 days on them and were always stored inside when they were not being used.

I hate to think that my skis should have any reason to break and that maybe there honestly could be a factory defect with the ski. It can happen every now and then. Was the ski hitting the ground really going to break the ski no matter the brand?

Please give your advice, NS! Anything and everything is welcome!

Thank you for reading,

David

All I know is: if I have issues with anything that I think could be covered by warrantee I talk to the manufacturer and/or the shop about the possibility of getting a replacement.

Try talking to ON3P. Who knows, they might even give you an answer instead of wasting everyone's time including your own by writing a story about falling on a groomer.

That's just me though. Who knows, maybe I'm the crazy one here

Damn dude thats pretty rare that u snapped em. But hey shit happens. Ive got a pair of Kartel 98's and if i had any other ski I'm sure they would be beat to shit. durability on them is great, as well as how they ride. How ever no ski is completely indestructible, but ON3P is probably the closest you can get! Hope you figure it all out!

Yeah man :( Right where the rocker begins on the tail of the ski is where it broke. I figured if the ski broke anywhere, it would be where the binding screws were...

As far as the warranty goes impact damage is not covered so if u weren't sending anything when they snapped theres a chance u could get them replaced, hope this helps!

Thank you my man! Its terrible how it happened and my friends will vouch for me on what happened. A complete mistake as far as I can see. Hopefully something can get worked out!

No question about that my dude. ON3P is closed on weekends and they have an email waiting for them to read when they get back to the office on monday. Even tried calling the office a few times today in case anybody was there working extra hard.

As for the shop that sold them to me, the manager who I've known for years told me that he'd replace them without question if he had them in my size but unfortunately they didn't.

I'm glad you gave your input into my situation. I'll be patiently awaiting a response from ON3P when they have time to address my issue. Until then, I'll be typing up my story on this forum hoping that some people can possibly tell me their stories on ON3P's customer service and warranty process/time.

Again, Thank you for the response.

Did you take a picture of the break and include it in the email? If not - do that now. Besides that, it's out of your hands. Also - maybe get a box ready so if (when) they ask you to send them the ski so they can have a proper look at it.

Got everything in there for em! full rocker profile and other detailed pictures I felt were important. I just know that as soon as march comes around, im not going to have as much time to ski so I hope i can make this process go quite fast if they give me their go ahead to ship em out. Also a box is not a problem. Got a few at my shop they can fit into no problem

Anybody else have good/bad experiences with ON3P?

did the exact same thing to a demo at Windells. Was skiing this mini halfpipe/rut thing at Mount Hood last summer and after buttering around went over to the park. One of my friends pointed out the left ski which had a crack in the topsheet and much higher rocker than the right ski.

I'm on Kartel 106s that I got first day of last season and they're tanks. I love them dearly and am thinking about taking it to the next step (marriage) but idk if u can wed your skis in the state of NH.

I skied my FRs for well over a hundred days and only had a edge break on me and some top sheet chipping. I don't see the big deal with topsheet cracks to be honest because all of my skis get them even my kartel 98s and they've never broken or anything. Same thing with my J skis whipits.

they are unless you hit the rockered tips or tails into a wall or something at speed

Agreed and that seems to be what mine did when the tail got jarred into the ground but I didnt think that would happen like that when others have their skis fly through the air in the icy park and get their tails jarred into the snow the same way...
