canon 30D.. smoke started comin outta the battery door, and lens mount.. i was not stoked..

basically, my gf took a picture with it ( she knows how to work cameras) and then it claimed the battery was dead, then she said it smelled like it was melting, and low and behold it did. so i ripped out my batteries and battery grip and smoke just started coming out. pretty scary.

canon is warrantying ( fuckin right they are )

has anyone ever even heard of something like this before?

something with the metal in the battary touching a different part of metal on the camera? i have no clue honestly i don't even know why im posting . good look

wow dude, that's crazy. What batteries did you have in there? I just skipped a 3rd party $10 batt. to buy a more expensive Canon one in fear of that happening.

I'm actually not surprised, not that I'm saying that canon isn't a good brand cause they are, but I've seen all kinds of things and heard alot of bad stories about canon cameras. I think the best ones were the shutters sticking to themselves and you end up getting a half an image.

A batter made by a company other than the one that makes the camera, like Canon or Nikon.
Like this: http://www.amazon.com/Synergy-Digital-EN-EL9-Lithium-Ion-Battery/dp/B000MK5B2K/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1208442678&sr=8-2

Its $9 as opposed to a $40 nikon battery

im not a fool.. both battery's are canon, one was purchased in october.. the other in august
