I went to the mt washington website and they have 3.5 feet of snow. it looks pretty deep from what i can see. even if there isnt a base. I called the road service and they said they dont have the road open to the top and they dont like drivers hiking past where the road is closed, but i figure no one will be around that cares. or we may try to hike up an easy trail. the weather lools decent but the wind looks strong... anyone know if it is gunna be the least bit skiable? could we build a little shitty jump? are we gunna get air EVACed off the mountain? or will be fine?

I guess the road is open like 3/4s the way up, and ive hiked around the mountain many a times but im sure its wayyyy different in the winter...

Dood there isnt any snow

well son, theres only one way to find out...hopefully you dont die...It will be rediculously windy there tho if its supposed to be even remotely windy.

Crazy homie, didnt know there was stuff way up top, just checked out there mountain cams at the ski area. Fuck if there is snow then hit it up, as long as it's safe

yeah, the wind will definetly be a killer, it said like 50mph gusts but you guys think that if we are in a protected area, like a ravine, or beginning of a valley or any unopen face that we might be alright? Im going to matter what just want opinions i guess, thanks

are you two talking about the same mt washington? because from what i remember, john is from east coast and illumi...whater is from west.... are you both talking about th eone on vancouver island?

the one in NH is the Mount Washington he's going to ski. But dude thats might be a little sketchy up there. Itthe first real snow they have had. I know a lot of the guys on the patrol for tuckermans and they say they'll only ski it right kno if they have to.

You can't ski there now. When there's a snow storm on Mt. Washington the 80mph wind fills the three ravines up with snow. There are a ton of rocks which wouldn't be covered up with 3.5 ft of snow. last Feb around the 27th there was about 80ft of snow.

i think you'd be hard pressed to find a ski-able surface. with or without the insane wind. a lot of the "snow" they got up there is windpacked hail and ice shit. even if you hiked to the very top...a long hike indeed...you would most likely find some drifts and icy rocks, that goes for the ravine too.

Set up a kicker? You'd be lucky to even ski it. I say go for it if you want but you are most likely just going to waste your time.

I would be very surprised if you even got to ski. the weather is probably going to be shitty and you know its going to be gusting 70 or 80 mph. If you do go, just bring warm clothes

here the lowdown on mt whasington ogt this at work today at my ski shop form a local guy who came down

mt w. gets shitpiles of snow puts becuase its all naturaul terrian and nothings been cleared the base has to fully develop before its skialbe when its becomes skiable (idk exactly when this is) there aobut a 6 week period you go top to bottom so wiat unless you wanna get hurt for serious

thats a lie. 80 feet? not true at all and you can ski anywhere you want if there are rocks or not just as long as there is a little snow.

there is alot of 'snow' but its really 34 inches of ice pellets

www.mountwashington.org has some pics, and i heard of some guy who skied it, but i think he skied down the road before it was plowed.

ive been reading aloit aboutthis cuz i was considerering it and if u have the free time and the weather is good (not windy and rainy) thjen go for it mang

mt washington is VERY rocky. it will take more than 3.5 feet of snow to ski . unless u find a not rocky part. i want to go.

IF WE HIT UP PEARL TRAIL WE SHOULD BE MORE THAN FINE. ITS LIKE GRASSY SLIGHT HILL. WE WILL HAVE TO HIKE A GOOD MILE OR SO MAYBE A LITTLE LESS BUT EVEN IF ITS SHITTY ICE ITS ONLY GRASS UNDERNEATH, I HIKE THAT SHIT ALL THE TIME.

i dont know about this trip, youll have NO base and will just get assraped, it would be like that trail that jon, jay and i took a couple years back where i almost died on it twice...it may be snow on top...but beneath are giant boulders just waiting to wreck you.

if i were you, if i were goin to mt washington id go to tuckermans ravine and ski the lower bowl if anything. dont go above the face over the bowl or youll die, there are supposedly ice blocks the size of volkswagons sliding around up there, and major crevasses under the cliffs, but the lower bowl should be sick.

I say just go up and see what it is like...dress in you BC gear so you don't freeze....worse case scenario (besides you dying) you don't get to ski and you get some good excercise.

^john W is going so there will be dope pics no matter what, and yeah, were not gunna go skiing near like huge cliffs or anything that looks the least bit dangerous...

It may be worth it to build a kicker and just pack in a small in run but yeah, the top of Washington is like the moon so it will take a bunch of snow to cover the rocks. If you go, take some pics.

*On a side note, we got our first snow fall on the top of Mt.Mansfield in vermont and I was super stoked to see it on the drive home yesterday!

Your idea of sticking to the ravines/gullies is perfect...all that 80-knot wind has dumped tons of loaded snow into these steep pitches....6+ feet of wind loaded icey snow on steep confined terrain...sounds super safe!!!

Go for it bro....after you here the wump and see a dark blue crack form under your skis and then are torn down a steep face of uncovered early season rocks...then you can come back to this site and post about how sick it was....

couldn't you just go to wildcat? it's about 10 minutes, if that, from the trail head.

but I'd say try it. and take lots of pictures of your expedition. props
