Socialism works in theory but not in reality. It also slows progress. Humans are greedy, and if they are not getting lots of money to progress society, they won't put as much effort into progression.
 
As an American, I have been treated by the Canadian health care system. It has many things right, and handles minor illness and injuries better than the American system. Expensive experimental Cancer treatment is not something many doctors would recomend it for. Nor is it known for stimulating the discovery of new treatments for just about anything. The U.S. healthcare system currently finances most of the Canadian pharmadutical industry.

I havn´t read everything you wrote but the first thing about stopping medicinal progress by switching to a European system is false. There are a lot of research being done on all kinds of illnesses and such in Europe. In Sweden there´s a lot of talk about it on the news. I´m sure you can find some examples:

So many Europeans ? What on earth are you talking about ? I don't know about Canada, but I can assure sure I don't know of anyone that would even think of going to America to get health care. As to the level of care, I'm sorry to have to break it to you, but America is in no way better than most European countries, but don't just trust me on that, go read some of the The world health reports (http://www.who.int/whr/en/index.html), I think those guys are pretty trustworthy when it comes to health, and according to them, America was not even in the Top 30 countries in terms of health care in their last ranking. So I'm sorry bud, but no, It's definitely not better, and I'm not the one saying it, the World Health organization is.
 
Sorry for dub post, but I'd also like to say that it seems unbelievable that the most powerful country of the world has most of its population terrified about getting sick and not being able to get care. I mean, is this your idea of an "advanced" civilization ? I don't know, I think Health should not be something you can afford, it should be a human right.

I have a bunch Of friends in Canada it takes months to get a major operation subparly done. So they come here for the best and brightest doctors in a timely manor. If doctors don't get paid shit why would they want to revolutionize the industry? Why would they go the extra mile?How many medical advancement happen in Canada vs the us? Say hello to stagnation of medical advancements, subpar care and long Wait times. Poor people fucking it up for the middle class. Us 1%er just need to hop on a plane to Mexico

our health care system isn't purely socialized, it's more of a modified egalitarian model.

basic health care is offered to all, but the opportunity to get aesthetics and other operations is still available through one's own wallet

only good thing i see about your private health care is it encourages personal prestige in a population because without that prestige and wealth, the biggest determinant of ones health can become their income.

your country is fucked and suffering from your private health care, yes the service you get is better, but the price you pay cant be afforded by half of those that need it anyway.
 
How is that invalid the you don't see the best doctors go to Alaska. The best doctors are in ca,and ny . The best doctors go to where the money is at obviously not Canada or what we will be. More poor people need to die to clean or gene pool survival of the fittest dude

Medical advancements by country is relivant because it show where better doctors are at. Shitty doctors don't make advancements so one could assume us has better doctors. Corellation Canada's doctors get paid less

I criticized the assumption that everyone has the wealth to afford privatized healthcare. You retort in some wild tangent about who has better doctors, medical advancement, and militant Darwinism. None of which has any relation to your notion that the effectiveness (ie frequency of treatment, not quality) of our privatized healthcare system is demonstrated by the fact that a small group of people in other nations have lots of money to spend on their healthcare.

So again, what the hell does any of that have to do with what I originally said?

About the money, let's say he has 30 million (don't know where you got that figure - his article only suggested he may have 8-figure sums), why would you carry on with a lifestyle like that? He is leaving and won't have to deal with any of the stress from his old life, and I would do the same.

This guy perpetuated a nasty economic downturn because he wanted an easy road to money. He's preaching about putting your Blackberry down and enjoying life when he just wasted a decade or two of his life in a career he admits is dishonorable and rife with backward decision-making. He blatantly tries to absolve himself by pointing to even RICHER, dishonorable businessmen. You might be the lesser of two evils Mr. Lahde, but you are by no means the model of truth and innocence.

This is NOT an attack against hedge funds or the financial sector in general. Nor is this an attempt to vilify the 1% or other successful Americans. All I'm saying is that this man has no right to take the "moral high ground."
