So in all honesty how bad are Tabacco products?

So I my friend and I got into a discussion as to rather or not the risk are greatly over hyped. We both agreed that they were over hyped but he seems to think it is much more a over hyped. Now obviously no tobacco products are safe . Just wondering what NS opinion is. Now I have dipped about 7 times in my life simply because peerpreasure and my friend dips every day. Also how long do you think it takes before you are actually at risk of cancer?

The thing with tobacco is that it creeps up on you. One day you're smoking socially to pick up chick's. The next you're chain smoking a pack a day to study for your final year exams. I'm so glad I quit. If it wasbt for big tobacco companies lobbying politicians, tobacco would be banned.

But it's bad for you. It's not over hyped one bit. Smoking. Will cause all sort of problems.

Grizzly Long Cut. You'll ski better, become smarter, chicks will think you're a badass. Its a proven fact.

95% of chicks think chewing is the grossest thing ever. why would any chick wanna kiss a dude thats had basically poison in his mouth and body.

DON'T FUCKING DO IT MAN, I STARTED OUT LIKE YOU, JUST DIPPING EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE WITH SOME FRIENDS, STARTED DOING IT ONCE A MONTH, THEN ONCE A WEEK, THEN I TURNED 18 AND IT WOULD BE EVERY FEW DAYS.

ADDICTION IS NOTHING TO FUCK AROUND WITH, IT IS THE HARDEST FUCKING THING I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. IT IS NOT EASY, IT WILL NEVER BE EASY. I WILL LIVE WITH THIS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.

DON'T FUCKING START, QUIT NOW WHILE YOU'RE AHEAD.

My story is like this I started out just curious I wanted to try it once just to see what it's all about. My cousin had done it. so I took a small pinch and I mean I tried it it was alright then I was like ok been there done that. Then my buds in hjghschool would go down and dip every day after school. So they pulled me in and I packed a couple days in a row then quit. Then after two months I dipped like 4 days in a row and bought my own tin i took ONE PINCH of my new tin and came down with some ulcers on my tounge . I literally thought I had cancer and it scared me out of dipping and quit for pretty much good. I mean I packed to day to prove I wasn't a birch to my cousin (wrong reasons I know) but I don't plan on dipping again.

I mean you can rinse your mouth out. It's not that hard. Smoking is cool but dip is death?

But really they're both horrible for you. I don't fuck with tobacco or tobasco products.

We are part of the live-fast die young generation. Do whatever you want and fuck the haters. Tobacco will take a few years off of your life span. Is that worth it to you?

dip =

Mouth, tongue, cheek, gum, and throat cancer

Cancer in the esophagus (the swallowing tube that goes from your mouth to your stomach)

Stomach cancer

Pancreatic cancer

Possible increase in risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and stroke

Leukoplakia (white sores in the mouth that can become cancer)

Receding gums (gums slowly shrink from around the teeth) and gum disease (gingivitis)

Bone loss around the roots of the teeth

Abrasion (scratching and wearing down) of teeth

Cavities and tooth decay

Tooth loss

Stained and discolored teeth

most of these can happen within around 2 years of repeated use some far less

One of these days, something will kill you. Might as well be something that gives you a buzz.

I dont smoke, or dip, or whatever. But let's stop pretending that tobacco is some enherently evil device. The people who go on about how 'cigarettes kill' are generally a bunch of cum snorting life failures that what to take their personal emptiness out on something 'evil' to feel good about themselves.

Smoke dont smoke, chew or don't chew, who gives a fuck. You could be splattered across the median by a semi truck driver tomorrow.

If you can keep it in moderation, I don't think it's all that horrible for you

Probably best to avoid in the first place though because most people don't have the will power they think they do

Its all statistics. Carcinogenesis only takes one puff. Some people can get cancer from their first cigarette. Others can smoke their entire lives. It's a risky game.

If you're willing to take that gamble, then go ahead and play. Just know what you're getting yourself into. Your body is your body. You only get one of them.

Regardless if you think it is gross or not, it is ultimately your decision and you should use as much actual science/medicinal facts to make your decision rather than emotional reaction.

Also, if you chew/dip that mainly directly affects you. But smoking affects others around you, and you are essentially choosing for me what goes into my lungs. My uncle actually died at the age of 46 from lung cancer associated with second hand smoke. Never smoked a day in his life, but since a lot of our family did around him throughout his life, it negatively affected him enough to cause lung cancer and kill him.

You should be able to do whatever you want, just so long as it does not directly affect other people without their consent. When your choices negatively affect others, that's when lines should be drawn.

It all depends on the person too though. I dipped everyday for over 2 years and just decided to quit one day without much difficulty

I think you are one of the lucky few then, I'm only 10 days tobacco-free right now and every day is hard as fuck, especially when you're stressed as hell. I could see it being easier if you're in a stress-free situation but it's still going to be difficult. But congratulations on quitting man.

My girlfriend's dad got his voice box out last week from cancer from smoking cigs. He has had cancer for a few years. The treatment sucks. He will never talk again. The hole in his throat smells like shit.

My dad works in a cancer hospital and obviously hates smoking. He always tells me about young people(20s) coming in with throat cancer and things like that and most of them don't make it through the treatment. Also, I don't actually see why you would start smoking? What positive effects does it have? And it's a waste of money.

Smoking has to be the biggest marketing victory in the history of the world. Tobacco companies have 100% convinced people that doing this is cool, despite it having no actual benefit for you and tons of negative/harmful side effects. There is no reason to do it other than they told you it was cool and you believed it.

Smokers tell me that they enjoy smoking, which I think they do. But it's only because smoking has created that feeling inside them for it. Smoking is not a naturally desirable thing to do. It's one of the ultimate proofs that people are capable of believing whatever they're told.

Early 20th century French intellectuals/philosphers/writers smoked Gauloises or Gitanese by the truck load.

We all know there is nothing more fashionable then them.

Dude, its not about how fast you get cancer. That is WAY off. I mean shit sure its a risk in your 30s or 40s but most of the risk comes at like 60+. So a young person can easily say "Oh its all good, couple of times won't hurt me."

However that is horseshit. When you're young the problem is how addictive it is. Its a lifelong addiction that never, ever, ever goes away. You will be battling with that addiction for the rest of your days on this earth if you ever let it sink in.

So like use tobacco for a few years when you're young and quit? You're fine. However you are fucking LYING to yourself if you think its going to be that way. That couple of years turns into a lifelong battle with nicotine addiction, and you end up dying of cancer because you trade the later years in your life to fill a stupid god damn addiction.

I mean do whatever the fuck you want, but trust me man - its a pretty brutal slippery slope.

OP this is from my personal life, in mid June after smoking for over 30 years my grandfather who was a cool guy with cool war stories to tell passed away. When we last saw him every few steps he would be gasping for air and even sitting still couldnt breathe well. Given that he had other problems it still made everything worse. Just save your money for something youll enjoy, new skis, a trip somewhere anything that just doesnt put poison in your body. Its not something chicks like either.

It's actually true. I haven't engaged with a single woman who was not disgusted by it and I'm an old fart.

Ive met plenty that didnt mind it and even a few that would throw In a dip themselves every once in a while

This. I started smoking cigars in college because I liked the taste and smell of them. Then I had quit them for a bit moved back to my home town started partying a little more and bam started smoking cigars again. then it moved to cigarettes because you get more in a pack. Next thing you know you're smoking 2 packs a day and wondering what the fuck happened. To be truthful I wished I had never started because I thought I could quit, the problem with quitting it's like people who lie to them selves and say they're done drinking after drinking too much the night before. You normally always go back to it. Now I haven't had a single cigarette in just over 2 years, but I have been smoking eCigarettes. I feel way better than when I was smoking actual tobacco, but even then I would rather not spend money on anything smoking related. Like Bishop says it's basically a life long battle once you start to enjoy the act of doing it. the more you do it, the more it becomes a habit. Breaking a habit is one of the hardest things. I would honestly say Dipping is worse than smoking because it will effect you later on and you'll be left wondering why the fuck you decided to do it in the first place. I mean you can do whatever you want, but honestly as one human being to another it's really not worth it. They have been designed to get people hooked. If you start thinking it's not really all that bad it's a slippery slope to a lifelong battle as mr.bishop put it. If you really want to chew something chew some bubblegum or something, that would be my suggestion.

Sorry for the bit of a wall of text.

Think of it this way, I have been trying to permanently quit since I was 21 and I have been fairly off and on, but the problem is the on part. I'm 28 now and still trying to permanently get myself off this shit. I feel like I have made some major progress on the ecigs side of things, but even then it has not been easy. There is a reason people say it's harder to quit than heroin. There are over 440,000 people that die from diseases related to smoking each year. UK recently passed a law prohibiting the sale of any cigarettes to anyone born after the year 2000. I don't really want to point out any more facts I'm sure I have already made my point. You do what you want, but personally I wouldn't knowing what I know now.

Cigarettes are nothing to get into, ive never really been a fan, ive smoked a fair few while drunk but ive never had the true desire to smoke a cig. i've had many friends slip into the cig addiction in the past, I had a roommate who never smoked until our freshman year of college and he would just smoke here and there, etc for the first couple years, but then he started buying packs and 5 years later he was smoking a pack a day basically. As doug said its a slippery slope.

Not only that but as soon as you smoke more than like 5 cigs a day, you constantly smell like cigs and your breath will always taste/smell like cigs. Some people dont care, but a lot of people are turned off by it. Of course you find a girl who smokes too and who cares but thats not the point.

Ill never judge my friends or anyone for smoking cigs, its a rough thing if you get addicted.

Advice: don't smoke cigs.

while were on the topic, dipping is horrible for your teeth, gut and gums. Might as well brush your teeth with sugar and save the trouble and cut out your own gums....

I dont think anyone tries to argue that its good for you...

Dipping is the most unhealthy form of tobacco. For starters, the blood in your gums goes straight to your heart. Your gums and jaw are also far more susceptible to cancer than from smoking. It also literally eats away your gums far before it causes cancer. Know that little strand of skin in front of your bottom two front teeth? You can say goodbye to that very soon after you start regularly dipping. Then from there it just, like I said, eats away all the skin in your mouth.

I mean hell, you're jamming tiny sharp pieces of fiberglass against your skin to cut your gums so the nicotine can quickly enter your bloodstream. YUM!
