So I'm not using poles anymore...

haha, it's fun, i agree, but some things are better with poles. i've come to this conclusion after skiing all last weekend without, and all this weekend with.

works out well then cuz im a digger!

but its not that we ski with no poles, we ski with shovels and rakes, which is a whole new and exciting experience!

did we need this thread?

not really.

i didnt ski with poles last year but its not like youre making this big lifestyle choice or anything. its poles. who cares

have you read the other threads on NS? many of them are un-needed.

Do YOU really have to comment about it? Thats the real question.

ive tried it before and its pretty weird. but its easier to grab no doubt. I just think stuff looks a lot cooler with poles though :)

Do you really want everything just to be eaiser ? Like would you just quick sliding sick rails and just ski straight across a box tips forward because it's eaiser. hell no girl. i think skiing without poles is lammee. might as well duck tape your skis together and drag your knuckels.

i might be dropping my poles as well this year and picking up a kyak paddle. much easier for POW POW

the only time i think it is fun not to use poles is when you are hittin jumps because grabbin is way easier

How is skiing without poles easier? It's actually alot harder, at least for skiing lines and pow.

I'm def. gonna try and ski more without poles this season, did it a little last season and it was really fun

idea makes me want to drop the poles a few times this season. i did it in a rail jam this weekend and it was sick

I dropped them a couple times last year to fuck around, it was fun. I plan on dropping a few times again this year, just in the park though. You actually NEED poles outside of the park.

I will keep using poles this year but ill prolly try without for a couple sessions to see how does it feels.

skiing with out poles is fun, i skied without poles alot back before it was "cool". some people also think giving head to a hermaferdite is fun too.

skiing just inst the smae with out your poles. yes you can ski powder and put your fingers in it, its easier not to lug around the poles, and you can grab more effortlessly, do you really want to make skiing easier? if you truely knew how to ski you would want poles for the simple enjoyment of the pole plant. one of the mechanics of getting in the zone on a powder day.

she mostly just jibs, so it's not really easier, rail balance is more difficult, as is controlling your flailing. and i expect to see pole on shelli on pow days. not that it matters a whole lot, have you tried skiing without poles? don't knock it till you try it.

i only ditch my poles when i want to learn a new grab with a spin, its easier and then i put the poles back into the mix. its all in the mix-twix

No poles is fine for the park, but the rest of the time who wants to get stuck on the flats trying to get back to the lift like some gaper snowboarder? I will keep my poles.

exactly. i dropped them the other day during a sesh and was like "wow"...definitely a weird feeling at first but then its super fun. outside park i have to use them

I like grabbing without poles, but I can't skate around in the tight confines of the lift lines easily so I think 1 pole is money.

I dropped mine for a bit before it was cool, I was trying to learn grabs, but now I always ski with poles. I can see why people drop them though, makes sense in the park.. not so much anywhere else

im definetly trying no poles this year. ill be at a small private hill in vermont for two weeks this winter and i want to just fuck around with no poles a little.

Word that is what i did to but during the season i am out of the park far to much not to have my poles

Btw, poles don't help you float in pow. Plu syou could drag the hand in pow like you were surfing,

Jeez, this is scary how snowboard like it is.

I Like poles because its just like having a hard cock in each hand. It gives me the confidence to try new things, just knowing ive got cocks in my hands. i think thats why they invented them.

i dropped mine like 10 days into this year for the first time and love it, i went back for a day and it was just not the same. i think ill just go no poles all year. if a snowboarder doesn't need poles and has one contact point w/ the snow y the fuck do i need them w/ two skis. u guys are pussies.

wow fairly mellow terrain in amazing perfect snow. A beautiful video but almost anyone can ski hero snow with out poles. its soft, perfect, you're floating, it's amazing and dreamy but when you get to real more common condition such as slightly crusty deep crud and you're skiing much faster than the skier in that video, that is when poles come into play. i'm not saying they are 100% necessary but they certainly make it a shit load easier to stay centered. And who wants to make skiing harder for themselves? if I wanted to do that I would ski on straight skinny skis.

Also without poles you are very limited in your mobility, you cannot traverse half as fast without poles as you can with poles, and some narrow uphill traverses are damn close to impossible with out poles. Not to mention the B.C.. Go try a long tour without poles tell me how that goes.

FWIW. I broke my wrist last season and was forced to rock no poles all over the mountain for a good part of the season. So I know that it is definitely possible to ski w/ poles out of the park. It just sucks. if it is corn snow, groomers, or perfect pow i could see where people might start dropping their poles for fun but otherwise just seems like more work to me.

yeah, you're right, I ski slow.  And it sure doesn't make it harder...To me, it makes it more fun.  but  again you're right, I need to use my poles because I don't know how to stay centered.  not like ive ever been on any non hero terrain/slow.

Skiing without poles is limiting. How do you intend to aggressively ski moguls?

hahahahaha

i say to completely ditch poles is just stupid.

no poles in the pipe? go for it.

no poles in park? super.

no poles in the backcountry, shredding deep pow, or just cruisin the corduroy? you're a fucking idiot.
