So I'm getting my wisdom teeth out...

Yeah, I'm getting my wisdom teeth out Friday, and I am NOT looking forward to it. Anyone got any advice? The doctors said it should be easy because they don't have any roots yet, and I'm pretty much just planning on laying around and downin' Trix all day. And what about the stuff they use to put you to sleep before surgery? I've heard horror stories about people telling their parents stuff they shouldn't due to some weird effect the gas has on your brain. Should I be worried about this?

And does anyone know how to get the swelling/pain to go away quickly? My hill is having a huge sale that weekend and I don't want to go all swelled up and in major pain.

Tips? Advice? Words of wisdom? (no pun intended.)

well hate to be a bitch bout it but there are a few threads bout it.

when they say dont eat b4 it...seriously dont.

wear comfy clothes

if u are afraid of the needle for iv they'll give u laughing gas

make sure u really feel well enough to do stuff cuz if u just do w/e u'll prolly feel sicker the next day.

dont take out the stiches

Some people recover really quickly, some people take a while to recover. I was practically fine the day after my teeth came out; my face was a bit swollen, but I was completely active. My girlfriend, on the other hand, was on the couch for half a week. If you try to get healthy, you'll probably get healthy quicker. And don't drink out of a straw for a long time afterward.

Yeah I'm getting mine out Thursday. My roots haven't developed either, should go fine. But about the gas, just get the IV and you won't have to worry about it...

I had mine out and I could feel them coming into my mouth, it was pretty bad for me, my mouth was huge for a week, but it sounds like yours are still not as developed. I had the flu the week before I got them out. That was the second time that year I had the flu. roughhhh winter cause I got the flu on my Christmas break and my teeth out feb break so it cut into skiing a ton!!!

for the first two days apply ice for 20 minutes then heat for 20 minutes, and on the 3rd day try to stretch your jaw. try to work up to 3 fingers in your mouth. i did this and i was back to normal in 3 days...if only a little swollen.

it sucks, for like a week your hav a shitty taste in your mouth, but the knock you out, and i got a very very large bottle of hydrocodine

I got mine out 2 monthes ago. I was really nervous and not looking forward to it at all, but after it was over, i was like, "thats it?". It's a really easy procedure. I went in, they put a needle into my vein on the inside side of the elbow, and about 20 seconds later I woke up in recovery with some gauze in my mouth. My face stayed numb for about 8 hours but other than that verry little pain and just stuck to shakes for about 3 days. It's really not that bad, nothing to worry about bro!

If they haven't developed roots yet you should be totally fine. Just make sure that you actually follow what they say, especially no drinking from a straw or smoking for a few days-dry sockets suck.  And if it really starts to hurt just take a lot of vicodin and go to sleep.  You'll be fine in a few days.

I was supposed to get them out a while ago, before they completely came in, and they hurt like hell for like 3 months while they were coming in, but now they are there, I'm fi ne with 'em.

i had the best time when i got my wisdom teeth out.
i got to lay around for a week, get spun on vikes CONSTANTLY, eat soup, and play elder scrolls IV.
honestly, life gets no better than that.

The IV costs a shit load, and sometimes insuance doesnt cover that because its not nessacary...

Good luck tho dude, i got the gas for mine, and it went fine, hope u can do some rails come saturday or sunday up at perfect.

At my last dentist appointment, they took an X-Ray of my teeth and figured out that the top and bottom right wisdom teeth came in perfect and clean, and the top left one isn't in yet but it's set to come in perfect.  However, the bottom left one is on it's side and it will definitely have to come out because if it doesn't, it will push all my teeth forward and fuck up my mouth real bad.  He also said that since I also had braces, orthodontists like to have patients mouths be symmetrical so they might take the entire (perfect) right side out just for the hell of it. They can't take one out because everytime I close my mouth it will have no opposite tooth to rest on.  This is going to fucking kill.

Yeah not so sure about hitting up the rails... I think i'll wait another month. Will they even have them up? I kind of hope they do just so I can see people rip it up.

My sister got her wisdom teeth pulled out and she was somehow immune to the laughing gas. They were just pumping the gas at full blast and it wasn't doing anyting to her. So, they just straight up pulled her teeth out with her wide awake. She was in tons of pain.

So, make sure you're not immune to laughing gas!

was she not breathing in when they said count backwards? Because all laughing gas is, is Nitrous Oxide, and when you breathe it in, it takes the place of oxygen. So it makes you go lightheaded, and eventually pass out. she must of been holding her breathe or something, or their gas not working. Theres no way you wouldn't passout from nitrous, cause then you'd have no oxygen and just die.

She was breathing it in as hard as she could because she hates the i.v things. She did everything she could to make herself pass out and she couldn't help herself at all. We're thinking that there might of not been enough gas or something in the tank (I really have no clue how it works) and the doctor's just wouldn't admit it. Pretty sketch.

dont take your powerful PKs, just dope up on ibuprofena dn save your PK's for school. But be sure to tell your aprents you are taking them, cause i didnt, and my mom took 23 vics away. i was sooo pissed off.

haha ya i got mine out last year and it sucked... i was spitting blood for a day or two and looked like a chipmunk. so my one word of advice is... ice

mine was fine...i had such a fast recovery time...they just slip the iv in you and start talking and in like 2 seconds you are out...then you wake up what seems like 2 seconds later and your mouth is loaded with gauz

now you asked about telling your parents stuff cause you are so drugged up...

i told my mom that this is exactly what i feel like when i'm drunk and she was kinda upset but didn't really take it seriously and i flipped off the nurse...it was a good day.

haha, i had to get a few teeth pulled, no drugs ar anything involved. so, i got really drunk at 9 in the morning and went in with my buddy. it was a good experiece, and at 6 that night i felt absolutley horrible....

I got them get out to.so fuckin sketched about needles though so i want the gas.and what is the advantage of takeing the neddle instead of the gas?

needles freak me the fuck out, so i had a few options. i think i got laughy gassed. i don't think i was laughing. i remember they had on regis and kelly and the woman was talking to me about the people on the show and i was like mumbling all sorts of shit.

but for swelling, i swear by this:

a friend told me that if you drank pineapple juice the night before your extraction(making sure to adhere to the not eating or drinking 12hrs before rule), then the swelling would be less severe. i'd never heard of this but i figured what the hell. i didn't have pineapple juice, but we had a shitload of canned pineapple. i ate a bnuch of it and drank the juice. along with it being mighty tasty, it actually worked. people said that i wasn't "chipmunky" at all. i remember other friends who had theirs out and looked horrible. i mean there's going to be a little swelling no matter what, but it wasn't too bad. wouldn't want to go through the aftermath though. then again i'm a wuss with pain.

hey man, all i can say that is its completley different from person to person. take me and my friend for example, he was in major pain for like 4 days, i had a downhill race the day after and placed 4th and took none of my painkillers. as fat as the gas vs. IV debate. the gas supprisingly didnt bother me like it used to. its deffinitly a different gas then they use in the OR. one thing that i did was requested that they not use the drug Versed. Versed is the drug that messes with your memory after the surgery, or as another user said its the one that will make you confess shit to rents. i just didnt like the idea of not being able to remember shit for like 12 hours. get your scrips before hand incase you do have pain, and get like a milkshake or someting right after. whatever you do dont smoke or drink form a straw. dry sockets are the worst, my friend had one. best of luck.

ski fast take chances

This is not true. There is oxygen pumped into the mask as well. If it was just pure n02 then she would have suffocated and died.

Ok. So it's day 2, and I'm feeling pretty good. The surgery was NOT bad at all, and they day of the surgery I had almost no pain, I just layed around all day and watched season 3 of the office and downed various puddings and milkshakes. The surgery itself was kind of fun, the gas they give you is sweet and makes you feel really good, and you're really out of it afterwards, which is nice. And to ronner, the IV isn't bad at all. What they did with me was they gave me gas for a little and then gave me the IV. Usually I don't like needles at all, but I was so weird from the gas I could have cared less, I watched the guy put it in, and it didn't bother me at all.

So it really wasn't so bad, and now I'm going to go eat some go-gurt and watch YEAH DUDE.

Peaceee

Update out of sheer boredom.

Yogurt products consumed-9

Puddings consumed-5

So today I watched Disturbia, and it was SO SICK. It was an awesome movie, and it kept me awake.

I also watched NEXT. It was gay. Next topic. I'm on vicoden, and its reallly trippy and makes me feel totally loopy, but it's sweet.

I also moved to soft foods today. Hoorah. Ate some scrambled eggs for breakfast, absolutely delicious. Also had some spaghetti for lunch, and had mashed potatoes for dinner. Both were incredibly delectable.

More updates as I become more coherent.

i always had probelms with my ears till i was like 10 and i would have to get tubes put in...anyways they would give me that laughing gas or whatever it is and the one time i couldn't breathe at all. they obviously only had the nitrous oxide tank like "turned on" and not the oxygen as well. and i tried to take off the mask and the fucking bitch held it there. i had to literally flip shit for her to take it off. and i would hold my breath for as long as possible, that was fun too. i had my appendix out and they gave me the IV, it was actually really awesome. i didn't even know they gave me it cause i had the IV in already giving me fluids. i was sooo drowsy i felt like i was high, only it was probably better. even though you already got your surgery, i wanted to share a story so.....

I'm pretty bored, so feel free to share stories. Yeah the laughing gas was pretty amazing, I didn't have a single care in the world, and I'm still really loopy from the Vicoden.

Nah man dont get knocked out its soo much better if you dont trust me. They gave me nitrous to breath while they did it and then numbed my entire mouth. It felt like everything was going superspeed, the opperation felt like it lasted 2 minutes. It also helped me to have a good time hitting on the nurse. Just ask them if they are going to sew ur gums closed, cause they didn't with mine and let them heal on their own, and my mouth and chin were numb so i couldnt keep the blood in so it got all over my pants on the ride home.

get the laughing gas, i would it wont fuck you up that bad it would just be an excuse to do a really funny drug. (i dont even smoke weed anymore just hit that shit)
