ok so im finally going to buy camera stuff. until now ive either been borrowing cameras belonging to photographers I assist or renting it and charging it to clients when they have a bigger budget.

but now I am about to order my first D-SLR system so here is my shopping list:

-canon 40D w/EF 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

-Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM

-77mm lens filter kit

-canon speedlight 580EX

-2GB scandisk extreme IV (3 of them)

-extra battery

-Dakine sequence camera bag or AK zoom pack

-Gitzo Tripod

-pocket wizard II (2 of them)

------------------------

im ordering all of this within the next 3 days. just double checking pricing before doing so. can anybody think of anything I might know about that I might want. I love tech shit so any gizmometer that you can think of let me know.

I highly recommend putting a light meter very high up on your list. You may want to look at the Sekonic L-358.

I always buy from reputable sites. I will probably buy from Adorama. when I said I was price checking I ment that I was checking local camera stores. I wouldnt mind spending an extra 50-150 dollars for the satisfaction of going into a shop and walking out with camera equipment. unfortunatly im saving a good 500 plus dollars and thats worth going crazu waiting for the UPS guy to show up.

as for a light meter. I really considered getting one but I only use them when I do studio work which I simply dont do enough at the moment to spend money on one. I can borrow a pretty cool sekonic meter from a friend that works wirelessly with pocketwizards and I also have one of my own from my first SLR (Nikon F3) both the camera and the light meter are as old as I am

I might get one though. its a cool little toy, and you look damn cool using one.(thats really all photography is about looking damn cool with damn cool gear)

reminds me of this one time I went to shoot an amateur fashion show, I borrowed a backpack full of gear. showed up with a backpack almost my size and full of gear I had 1Ds mark 2 with a nice long white lens at the end of it a backpack with 7 or 8 lenses and a 10D with a wide angle lens a bunch of filters a light meterand more crap that I knew what to do with. I played around with settings of all the gear played with flash settings, changed lenses more than anyone ever should and had the most fun I ever had playing around with gear that easily cost the same as a decent car.

end of the day results: 40 shots taken, 2 good ones, 7 phone numbers of hot girls added to my phone.

all in all a great day. I still think to this day that SLR cameras need to have a built in phone bok for all the chicks it can pull.

dont get the 28-135. look for the 17-85. why would you want to much overlap with the 70-200 when you can get more of a wide angle with the 17. plus the 17 is like a 28mm.

BATTERY GRIP!

if you're not opposed to fixed-length lenses, i'd say a 50mm 1.8

also, a wide angle zoom would be good, like the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II

or the canon 10-22

Hey first off super sick list.

I would recomend gettting the:

17-40 F4 L $630 (w/ rebate)

70-200 F4 L $539 (w/ rebate)

unless you really need the 2.8 get those you can get them for about the same as a

70-200 2.8 L $1,140

So for 1169 you can have two super good lenses only like 29 bucks more.

Prices from B&H.
