Any suggestions on what to put on top of it that will slide? ((its on its side)(the box is)) Its two feet wide and we are planning on putting metal caps on the sides to grind on but because of its width we think we will need something in the middle. Were also building a kink down box but haven't even started on that yet.

I have a problem with my box. So far Materials like wood and paint have added up to about $80 and now we need Angle Irons and plexiglass like material for top.

First off for one box angle irons will cost $40(were builing two boxs). A sheet of Plexiglass is about $250. Anyone have some suggestions on how to lower costs????

I Know some people said sheet metal but we decided not to use that. Also I don't know where we could get hockey board sheets???

buy cookie sheets, and ducktape them on.

Don't use plexy glass or Lexan, they are really expensive. You can get a teflon sheet as someone mentioned above, usually mills and stuff have them and may be able to hook you up. Also, try looking into a bunch of different shit, like I think I may be using a nylon material.

Yeah my friend said we might get some Lexan then from his dads work, but what do you think about angle irons? Do we even need them then, is there anyway to get them cheap or a cheap substitute?

metal on the side isn't necessary, if you can get lexan then definitly use that, just round off the edges with a metal file and you'll be set.

I just wanna see siamese twins box eachother.

i built a box for skating and instead of using angle iron we bought a piece of that metal edging that separates the grass from a garden. You can either put it flat on top or, what we did is put it on so half is on and half is off then pounded it into a 90 degree angle with a seldge hammer. I takes more work but it only costs like 5 bucks.

word-

right, sorry bout being a dick with the cookie sheets...... but if you cut the sides off em, and they're teflon, it'll work wonders......

or, another serious idea would be to use the plastic laminate that they make countertops out of. i'm not sure about the price, but it would slide pretty well......

or, option #3. buy polyureathane lacquer, and just paint about 20 layers on to the box. a can of the stuff would about do it for the sliding side of a box that size......

hope that actually helps you.

Alright so im set with the first box because we are gonna get some free lexan, but if theres any people who are like professional rail builders if they could tell me if this would be immpossible for me to build, because I really want to. We were going to make a kink down from the flat box we built, but I really want to make a C-box.

By the way its a sweet grind too.

yeah buildin boxes is expensive, but when ski season comes around, ill be glad I made a box to slid on, if it slids. Back to the C-box.. Will it work???

^hahahahahahhaha. nice job. i suck at makn rails. dunno why, they never work. i just have the trouble of finding a top material. dunno where i could get lexan.

Yeah my friends dad works at a sign making shop and were going to get some lexan tomorrow that they take off signs. You could probably ask a local sign shop, I dont know if they would give it to you because its pricey.

Were gonna start and hopefully get most of the C-box done tomorrow, I'll post a pic of it tomorrow night.

drool

If you want a really awesome rail, go to a machine shop and have them weld it for you, then go home and grind the welds smooth and I sometimes have to put some wax on it (regular ski wax) because if it isn't stainless it will rust and rust dtroys skis even faster and wax pprotects it from that...

And as for the C-Box, I haven't built one for skiing, but me and one of my friends built one for BMX and it wasn't that hard...

hockey board. It's dope.

Make sure you double drill your holes so that you can recess the screws really well. Don't glue, it always falls off.

I'm all over it!

^Im one step ahead of you. We already used lexan and double drilled the holes.

i made some rails the other day....my friends dad is a welder and he taught us how to weld....we have two 12 foor long 3 inch wide flat bar rails that are adjustable in height from 19 inches to 3 feet.....so you can make...flat-down, down-flat, up-flat, flat-up, flat-flat, flat-drop-flat, up-down,

damn i never thought this would be so hard, i found all this junk wood in my house that i can use as the structure and stuff. and i knew i would have to buy the stuff that i would slide on, but it sounds a lot more difficult then i thought! it is kind of discouraging. but i wont give up and before winter comes i'll find an inexpensive substitute, and share the good news

holy shit that box is a work of art

mountains use lexan, good stuff though, we just had really cheap lexan.

Lexan is felxable when put under heat. Bend the sides so the lexan sits on top of the box and hangs over the sides a bit. No extra money needed for coping.

we didn't have enough lexan to do that, the sheet was exactly 2 feet wide because we got it from a sign shop. Im just gonna find an 8 foot long bed frame and somehow use the metal bars to make coping. But my the sign shop can also weld us shit so I don;t know why we didn't take advantage of that.

The best stuff to use is UHMW {ultra high molecular weight} plastic, you can get sheets of it any size.Trust me, it's what you need.Just look in the yellow pages under plastics or search on google for UHMW.
