So i went to prison today....

not like some white collar resort place either, im talking federal pound me in the ass prison. maximum security. i went on a class field trip for sociology.

we started the day out by going into a room with 90 inmates, everything from murderers to molesters. (so easy to spot the molesters) and they had a councling session kinda deal where one guy talks about his crime (he just cut a guys face and sold mad drugs kinda boring) it was pretty intense, the guys are really smart and well spoken for inner city criminals from nyc and troy. after that we had a small group session where 8 inmates stayed. i believe it was one murderer(shot a guy in the head while robbing him), the guy i mentioned above, a guy who commited robbery and assualt, another murderer (first degreee stabbing) 2 more burglars and armed robbers, and a guy serving a life term for child abuse (3 counts of molestation and 3 counts of child porn, looked like the dude from office space ill get a pic) and one more guy i forgot what he did though. drugs maybe. had some intense chat with them and then went into the gym where there were about 75 inmates, one of them was the biggest man i have ever seen, black dude who could literally bench 500 pounds i bet. scary scary place, shit you see on tv. then we got to see all the shivs and weapons that get taken, some sick shit...way crafty dudes.

then we ate lunch at subway...wonderful i had a turkey back swiss.

then we went to the max security part of the prison and saw the yard and the cell block where rapper shyne is and tupac shakur was...sweet. the yard is awesome, he showed us where the bloods, crips and lating kinds stand as well as ms-13s. then the weirdest part...after getting stared down harddddd everywhere we went by sketchy dudes we talked to oe inmate in for 2nd degree murder, told us about how bad it is in jail and how he watched a man get stabbed to death over a pack of cigs.

k so probably the sketchiest part...we went to the gym in the "bad" part of the prison (volent criminals primarily)...now i expected this to be MUCH worse than the other one. but when i got in there it was only about 20 guys just chillin playing basketball and stuff, but unlike the other guys in the other gym they sucked...seemed like a decent place...then the gaurd told us that one 80 year old man who had walked up and said hi had kidnapped, murdered and raped an 11 year old girl. serving a life term without parole.

then he said this to me (the gaurd) "hey you see that guy in green shorts, the short guy" i said yeah...he said "hes in here for serial rape and murder, raped and killed 7 women." now thats just fucked up 100%. that was enough shady shit for one day so we headed.

the place was fucking unreal, guys talked about being in there for 20 years like it was nothing.

the pedo looked SO MUCH like this guy, only with a creepier stache (thinner)

my friend wanted to make him cry cause honestly child molesters deserve it so he asked if he was treated differently by other inmates when he first got there. he almost cried but held back and told us that he lied to everyone nd said he was a killer or something so that he didnt get murdered for fucking with kids.

prison on tv looks so screwed up. imagine going to prison for 50 years, and living out your sentence and being released. imagine how much everything would change outside in the period of 50 years, it would blow my mind.
 
yeah i was nervous but not really once i realized it was fairly safe in there. they keep the real bad guys locked up while we were there i think. but they were banging on windows to get the girls attention and then staring at them. it was lot like what you see on tv in the max security block but nothing like it in the nicer part (which is for guys who are trying to make change a select 260 out of like 60,000 inmates in NY) the only thing that was different from what you see on tv really is that their yard isnt all just bball and workout equipment (thats in the gym) but outside they have a massive hillside for the yard with gardens and woodstoves all over it so that the inmates can make fires with wood they are given and cook up rice and beans and stuff that they grow, i guess it keeps them a little busy to prevent some fighting. its a cool idea i thought. they also had an amazing church, it was its own building inside the walls, a huuuge cathedral, so weird to see such a nice building in the middle of a prison. all prisoner built also. but the gates are just like what you see on tv and same with the towers on all the corners and shit of the 40 foot walls with a bunch of guys with guns, and inside they have a room up high with holes in the glass so they can throw in cans of gas when fights happen.
 
Well, when your country combines the sheer number of people we send to jail with the wonderful 'sue every injustice' mentality, you get prisons that make life better than what criminals usually get outside. I really hate so many things about the US prison and legal system, I cant even tell you.
 
a homeless guy should just kill someone so he can go to prison there, seems pretty nice?

anyways that was probably a sick field trip, our school doesn't go places like that we go to gay shit. like last year we took a field trip to our own vo-tech school, wtf?!
 
visiting people in jail isn't as interesting or fun, plus the guards are dicks most of the time.
 
its not like they buy them nice plots of land and shit, they build everything they use with crappy ass supplies. the stoves are wayyyy jerry rigged and they have to build the plots and they also work all day everyday for free. making clothing for everyone (staff included), buildings, and stuff they can sell/donate. oh sorry not all of them work for free...if you work in the kitchen you can make up to 16 whole cents an hour! dont get me wrong im not saying these guys are good people in any way or that they deserve decent lives...but they do everything they can to make sure the inmates give back as much as they can while they are in there, 60,000x6 hours of free work a day for many many many years...you do the math. and thats just in new york. it costs money to keep these guys away from decent people and at this point they dont really have much choice i dont think. And i get what you are saying that their lives are better in there...but losing your freedom isnt really the most wonderful thing ever, imagine not being able to see your family even on holidays and stuff...that blows. (not that they dont deserve it) their lives suck balls, but it isnt their fault they become accustomed to it.

ya, i have done this before, this one kid in my class almost got in a fight with one of the low risk inmates. it was freekin funny.
 
that is isck, would love to go and look round a high security prision, i reckon it would be quite interesting to see if people have changed, quite an eye opener, what a field trip
 
it was for highschool seniors.

no i didnt chill with shyne, i know its bullshit.. i was mad and yelled about it for a while. i got within 300 feet of him though at one point cause i was in the middle of his cell block.

and yes the gruel was terrible, but not as bad as the dementors.

lucky! last field trip i went on was to the local waist water treatment plant = dookie, it smelled soooo bad and like 5 people through up. not fun
 
Ive seen people like that once at a rest stop next to a highway, where a bunch of inmates were getting transfered to a high security prison and the guys creeped me out. One guy had half his head shaved while the other half was a 3 inch afro, and his eyes were literally like popping out of his head. and they had two police officers there with high powered rifles and all the inmates were cuffed at the wrists and legs. Ive always been scared of prison since then. it would suck to be in prison.
 
county prison sucks.. I've had a couple overnight stays but thats only with drug attics and wife beaters. Every time i've been in there they are always cool black guys atleast They just love to dope on anything. It still sucks tho, cement beds and what not.
