So I Want Your Opinion On...

... the length of the Afterbangs. Im positive im gettin them next year since they discontinued the Anthem and I want a softer ski unlike the Step-Up. I work at a ski shop and the question ponders me every time I walk by the skis if I should get the 177 or 166. Im 5' 8'' and a "level 3" skier or expert in other words and you size a ski from the eyebrows and above for skis at that level. The 166 comes just above my eyebrow and the 177 is about half an inch over my head. Either one would be in that range. With a twin ski you are getting less contact versus a direction ski cause your gaining length in the tail of the ski but it does not make contact with the snow im sure you all know. So i would really be skiing on a 171 if you take away the tail. And the swing weight on the Afterbang is relatively low so I know i could easily go with the 177 but i feel like I would have more fun on the 166 especially cause im primarily rails.

SPARKNOTES:

Im 5' 8''

Dont know if I want 166 or 177 Afterbangs

166 to eyebrow

177 half inch above head

But seriously read above

What would you guys do in this situation and your opinions?

Thanks NS

How strong of a skiier are you? How big do you go in the park? How hard do you shred backcountry? If your just starting out, go shorter. But if youre strong or have handled 170ish before, get them, it doesnt take much to get used to 10 cm difference.

ya i had a mind set on that until i saw the compton gold project vid. he uses both 177 and 166 but fuckin rips on the 166 and he looks similar to my height and made me question this

1. pretty aggresive

2. 20-50 footers

3. ice coast?

4. expert

5. i was on 169 silencers for what its worth mounted center but was originally at standard

6. 8 cm seems like a big jump in size versus goin to the 166

if u think about it, its 4cm on each end, not so much at all. I jumped from 161-176 and it was fine. U will barely notice the 8 cm difference

true... i suppose coming off silencers considering i ride 95% park will make the abangs feel like jesus regaurdless of the size

I am 5' 8" 155lbs and I ski the 177s and wouldn't go ANY smaller (unless it was a STRICTLY urban ski) because it's center mounted and pretty soft so if you go with the shorter length you'll wash out a lot on jumps and higher rails.

You should add about 5 cm to K2 skis length b/c they measure differently. So 169 is about a 174. I would personally go with the 177 if I were you.

I don't really know why. I believe they used to measure effective edge length before twin tips came around. I guess they just kept a similar scale with their newer measurements but now they really have no meaning other than the fact that they are shorter than the ski actually is.

I recall this question coming up in a R2R thread a while ago, and I believe they said they accidentally printed a 177 with a 166 top sheet. I could be wrong though.
