i torqued my knee like two weeks ago on a rail. its still bothering me so i go to the docs today and theres a pretty good chance i have a moderate meniscus tear. if an MRI confirms it i have to get it operated on to get it fixed up. whoes had the surgery, and how long were you back on skis afterwards? give me good news please!

My friend had sugery on his kjnee torn meniscus and they cut is out and he was walking that same week and sking about 5 days after surgury

never had it. I dislocated my shoulder yeasterday so I feel your pain im goin skiing tommorrow if I fall on my right shoulder Im gonna need surgery to. if its only a small tear you should be in goog shape in 1-3 weeks

i tore my acl whickh is worse because your out of sports for at least 6 months and ive had 2 acl replacements it sucks and 2 nights ago i went skiing and i think i tore my MCL or meniscus too it sucks but u can ski the rest of the season out if u want just wear a brace and take it easy or go ahead and get the surgery over with, and the good side is that they give u some good pills...haha it sucks but it will all work out

i would ski out the season but the problem is i dont have full extension in my leg right now because the torn piece is in the way and it hurts like hell. docs orders no skiing because my knee is really unstable with a piece of cartilidge jammed in some place that doesnt belong. i risk tearing ligaments that way, and fuck that.

I HAVE had the surgery. No big deal man. You'll be skiing within 5-6 days, even earlier if you heal well. Just to be safe, wait a week or so and you will FULLY recover. It's simple. They use three tubes, one for light, one to suck the torn miniscus out, and one for the camera. You should have the option of being awake for the surgery. I, however, like being all drugged up. They give you nice pills too. Think of it as a free drug run (that is if insurance pays for it)!

Life is tough. Its tougher when you're stupid

my school mates always said that they would fuck anything that could walk. i never saw why i had to limit myself.

I tore mine, skied out the season in pain, worse mistake you I and anyone can make.

you damage more each day when the insides of the knee are bleeding and swollen.

got the surgery and was back in the game a month and half after with hard PT.

that sucks dude, i feel for you. my brother tore his miniscus, had to have 3 serguries. make sure you get a good surgeon and you won't be out for long. if you're in northern cali i suggest dr. townsend...official orthroscopic surgeon for the LA Lakers. hope you get better

na man im east coast i live in southern NY im gonna go to the city (NYC) to get a really good surgeon. some of the best in the world are there.

if the do it arthroscopaly(sp?) and the cut out the dead cartilidge you shluld be back up in a week. If the cartildge is still atached and alive then will sew it back where it belongs and then it is no ctuches for 6 weeks and then a few weeks of rehab. mine was tore from the blood supply and was removed. I was back playing football the same week

karma

i tore mine and they told me surgery was pointless. yeah, it hurts a little more than the other knee if i overshoot or undershoot or land real hard, but if you ice it when it hurts its not bad. also, ice baths after skiing are key. helps your legs recover much quicker.

i had it done on both of my knees 1 year after another. i did it riding bmx in the summer so luckly i had the sugury then. humm this isnt a big thing so i would say if u go to therepy and work hard a month and a half give or take a few weeks i really dont know depends on how hard you work. i went to therepy everyday but sun and i was good in around a month

yea man i just tore my menisicus hafta get surgery this wedsday. The doc said i should be back 3 weeks afterward

Gotta Attack the MOUNTAIN!!!!

so it turns out the doctor made a mistake in her convictions and the MRI shows i have an acute partial tear of my MCL. looks like im out for the friggin season, why didnt i insure my season pass damnit! i hate doctors that give you false hopes.

My dad had surgery on his in August and was back to work a few days later doing construction. Recovery seems pretty quick, he just had to ice it at the end of the day. He's been skiing a few times this winter and said it feels great. And he's like 50 something so a young guy like you should recover faster.

A friend of mine tore his like 3 years ago and he's been snowboarding on it 50+ days for the last 2 seasons with little problem. I'd say if you can wait just get the surgery after the season is over. Zach Leach who is a pro snowboarder for Oakley and GNU did the same thing.

its no longer a meniscus tear she was wrong. MRI says partial tear of mcl about a quarter to one third of the way through. no surgery but i do need to go to physical therapy for a few monthes.

hahaha not out east it sucks over here my mountain has a 6-18 inch base of manmade snow.

a piece of info that might help you:

there's an australian olymipic hurdler named Jana Pittman who partially tore her mcl the week before the athens olympics. she had surgery and competed in her race 2 weeks later.

fuck, i meant meniscus, not mcl. oh well, looks like it was a moot point anyway. most people i know who've done their mcl have come back in 6 weeks, so there might be something left of the season if you're lucky. do you have a hyperbaric chamber anywhere near you? that boots recovery time majorly if you really care enough to take that much effort.

a hyperbaric chamber is when they increase or decrease the air pressure around you, they do it for divers that came up too fast(also known as the bends)and then they get nitrogen bubbles in their blood, so the extra pressure helps get them out of their system. dont give up on the meniscus, it might just be hypermobile like mine, meaning it moves more than it is supposed to

^ crap the should b an i in front of the no my bad

Pirate steeze, arrrr!

its not my meniscus dudes in my MCL now. and what does a hyperbaric chamber do to speed recovery times??

'I thought i was going to dead.'

-Charles Gagnier

i don't know the scientific explaination for how it works, but a hyperbaric chamber reduces recovery time, something about the extra oxygen or something. athletes use it when they're hurt and need to get back quicker than normal. what i'd suggest is that you check out if there's a sports medicine center anywhere near you and ask them about it. usually they have the chambers at big sports medicine centers, or at university medical centers. it definately helps you heal faster, it's probably expensive though and still mightn't get you back in time for the season.

My brother partially tore his ACL on a knee on knee in hockey and his surgery recovery time is 9 months, hope yours isnt that long

i spoke to my physical therapist today and he examined my knee and checked out the mri's. he said its healing really fast and he thinks with physical therapy at least 4 times a week i could be back on skis in 2-3 weeks and strong if not stronger in 4-6. sounds promising, im hoping he can make it happen.
