So I joined my Schools racing team...

Childstar.

And im the only person that has raced before other than at school, (but it was three years ago and I sucked when i did) and due to this am in a singles only category in a higher level... (level2)

So, I am faced with two options;

1) Actually care about how I do, race in a race suit, get racing poles, use race skiis.

OR

2) Troll during the races by wearing our Obnoxiously large clothing i wear when i normally ski park, wear my twins, and use my poles that are shorter than midgets.

Please help me decide how I should take on this season lmao

well if you take it seriously and work at it your form will get better which will improve your skiing overall

i say why not

actually race. itll make you a better park skier. also if you can, as a park skier, beat some obnoxious racers it will feel so much better than having obnoxious racers make fun of you for wearing ridiculous clothing. i was captain of my high school's team and i didnt like racing one bit, but still worked my ass off everyday just so i could beat them at their own game.

I do school ski team to, coach is mad laid back and lets me ski park and only race on race days, I used my twins, short poles, and wore Jiberish and ski pants.

Deffo get race skis and poles (if you do slalom, no need if youre doing GS, downhill or super g(do us schools even do that?), no real need for race suit.. isnt it only a difference of like 0.5s? And if youre not in the top 20 or so there's no point spending money on it right?

But I'd take it seriously, it will improve your skiing so much.. Most of the pros have some sort of racing background.

1. Racing is a solid background to have as a skier. I raced seriously from 11-17 and have no regrets.

But you just use the basis for everything.

Ski wize im set, i havent raced for a while as i said, but ive still kept my joy of carving up slopes a couple times a week instead of solely park. I already have what I consider the best ski for carving/racing ever made, a pair of atomic SL 11's from five or six years ago. they are by far the best ski i've ever skied on, i hate the head worldcup series and fischers are nice but to aggressive, atomics new skiis have like no edge, so they would barely last a season of race tunes. But to each there own i guess:P

haha properly racing a pair isnt designed to last a season :P haha. but i guess thats budget.

I personally think Head SL from 4 years ago were amazing.

On one hand you could benefit your skiing vastly if you took it seriously because as you probably know, racing helps all round skiing performance ALOT. On the other hand you'll officially be a catsuit uber tight racer...cough..

well i'd say if you're good at it then you should actually try. or if you like it

but if it was me, i would do minimum race practicing, but still try during the time you have to practice.

i wouldnt actually rock racing equipment but i'd try and not try to make a mockery of it. but still hit the park as much as possible

i hate it when kids come out for a team then act like retards. happens a lot in cross country.

Joining the race team then acting as though you are somehow above it is possibly the douchiest thing I have ever heard. If you don't want to race, fine, neither did I. But don't go out there and waste everybody's time while implicitly insulting something that many people care about and acting like a prima donna stuck up bitch. Don't be that asshole who is to afraid to be seen enjoying anything.

Actually give it a shot but don't start investing in the equipment until you're at a level to benefit from it.

I wouldn't be half as good of an all around skier without my HS racing days, and its actually lots of fun.

Oh shit my karma!

and

"Troll during the races by wearing our Obnoxiously large clothing i wear when i normally ski park, wear my twins, and use my poles that are shorter than midgets.

thats such a retarded op. should i take advantage of a race progrma and become a better skier? or should i make fun of the racers bu makig a joke out of it. What are you 13?

love the contradiction of stupid park rats who think its cool to hate on racers

lololololol im doing it to hangout with my friends that are also racing at lower levels and have a good time about it.

U Y SO MAD THOU?

i-dunno-lol.jpg

probly should have mentioned that in the op to aviod alot of hate lololol

COME AT ME BRO

I troll. I wear thug shit. One time this kid told me he thought my tall flannel was dope, I told him his speed suit was real tight. He thought I was being nice at first. Then he realized. Lol I win

but she could like totes make a thread with pics and be like zomg look at mah pics!1! i made fun of racing and didnt take it seriously lmfaololz!!1one!

i've always wanted to grab a pair of race skis and just rip up trails, so i imagine racing would actually be pretty awesome with the proper gear. flirting with the fine line between speed and insanity, seems pretty cool. if you're gonna race, go all out.

Being an ex FIS racer, I can attest to racing being extremely fun even at the higher levels. You make a great set of friends due to the fact racing is only two runs and a day long of skiing and or lodge-sitting. But if youre looking for race gear, I have a lot of old gear looking to sell (Shinguards, suits, shorts, goggles, lenses, etc).

That being said, unless youre filing your skis every single time you tune them (which you shouldnt be), they should be able to last you at least two seasons, depending how often you use them. Before I used racers and trainers, my skis would last at least two seasons.

And ripping on race skis is awesome. I plan on using my 191 Atomic GS Skis when the ice comes on the east coast at stowe and terrifying others ;)

You already joined the team so now get the gear It will make you a better skier and you will enjoy the hell out of the park when you get the time to rip through it on an off day. The days off school for traveling will also be worth it because the actually racing is only half the fun (if that!)

dawg you live in ontario!? thats sick.

i raced highschool for 4 years and we came 8 @ ofssa one year. was super fun.

good luck!

I was on my high school race team once - till they kicked me off. Our school had a "recreational" team and a "serious" team. The serious team did really well, winning most of the time. I had no interest in actually racing nor being recreational, I just used it as a reason to actually be allowed to ski on school days. Joined the serious team for shits and giggles - first race of the season I hopped switch and ran the course backwards. Apparently I wasn't serious enough so they told me to not show up anymore.

yep.

racing suits are actually pretty sick....you can go so fucking fast in them.

Dont race on twin tips. It really sucks cause it turns into a sheet of ice and its miserable. Get some racing skis or carving sticks. There actually a blast on icy days when you dont feel skiing the park

Ya I was at OFFSAA two years ago, it was mad fun and my team did really well. Thats the one thing I miss about highschool is the racing.

OP, take it seriously and get the right equipment, being that cool kid in all the baggy shit is fine, but having the attitude with it and taking the whole program for granted is kind of disrespectful. Its a great opportunity to fine tune your skiing and you will get miles bettermy $0.02

I joined my schools racing team last year, didnt take it too srriously, wore my park stuff but had race skis, i honestly hated it, not doing it again, racing is so boring

#2, is that even a question? It would be so funny if you just went and trolled all the races and did tricks coming down the course, maybe doing a race switch, and get it on film!

#2, because thats what i do. I get to go to big mountains for free and skip school all day.i race in my first drop, and use my twin tips with no edges. and every race my coach yells at me to get bigger poles
