so now i guess they are having the same issue as with ipods and they are cheating people out of money by making the batteries die after a short period of time and its like 60 bucks to replace. im too lazy to find an article for proof but if its true i have a feeling apple is gonna have some financial trouble if they keep pulling this shit.

yeah dude i know they are fine now, they are so fucking trendy they cant be stopped. but if they continue to put out products with parts that cost way too much to replace then they are going to start to lose buyers, im sure they already are losing ipod buyers, or repeat buyers anyways....its funny how mac user are so crazy about telling people how awesome macs are. im not saying i have a problem with you at all but its like every mac thread or conversation some mac user come in and starts going crazy about how they are actually awesome...you dont hear many pc users bragging about how good their computer is. and yes call me ignorant all you want because i really dont give a fuck about statistics or what people who love apple say. but i dont think ive ever heard anyone say something good about their ipod and if you search ipod in the searchbar there will be about 300 "my ipods fucked" threads.

yeeeaahh thats what i thought about mine until a couple weeks ago. The battery is dead now. But it's 2 years old so i guess thats to be expected.

WRONG, haha there are rechargeable bats out there that don't build up a "memory". No one uses them because they don't die, if they don't die the companies don't make any money.

I talked with some dude at MiT who was all butthurt about it because the technology is readily available.

k so i got 2 good responses about the ipod...but i really dont know many people who have gone out and bought new ipods because their battery dies shortly after their one year warranty ran out...its just planned obsolescence in my eyes and i don't think its fair that they run sideways business practices like that. that being said i did like my ipod for about 13 months and the macs i use daily at school are pretty nice, actually very nice for graphic design work.

yeh I should prolly find an article about what I am talking about. It's not Lith Ion, it was something similar. It's not a memory either, that was the only term I could think of.

They die out because something gets used up, to be simple about it.

This other type of bat is made of something else which apparently really never has that happen.

Granted I can't remember what they are called, alls I remember is at my buddies party there was a cliche MIT nerd, and he would not stop talking about this shit after I told him my old laptop bat melted.

Call it a claim if ya must. I am not gonna go looking for it because no one here really even cares haha.

exactly...but the thing is....be honest with yourself here...they dont put in a battery door because they know that they will make a ton more money off of it if you cant do it yourself easily, they know that half of the people will just go buy new ones ipods or replace the batter for like 60 dollars...not because they want it to look nice.

hah right, thats a bonus im sure not their motivation for it. haha. but if they made a phoneless iphone for the price of a regular ipod id cream my pants.

I've had an ipod mini for 4 years, and ive only replaced the battery once, and it works great.

The batteries arent that expensive and you can do it yourself, its pretty simple to do.

I thinking about getting an ipod soon. Time to upgrade from my walkman. My van halen tape is starting to die on me.

That's smack-on. Exactly. Apple are money-hogging bitches who overprice most of their shit anyways.

I love ipods ever sine i learned how to reset them when they freeze, only one i broke was my video when i dropped it into a bathtub... long story

i've had my ipod for 3 years and the battery still holds a decent charge, so maybe they're just getting cheaper with the newer versions

I am a Mac user and proponent, however as of late i feel that Apple has exchanged product quality for designer 'flash'...the sort of techno-celebrity status Apple marketing has crafted over the last 5 years.

My assessment is purely anecdotal, drawing on my own experience and the experiences of my immediate social network. The design of all their products is brilliant, but the longevity and stability of their hardware/software packages seem to have lost their edge.

You used to buy a Mac because they WORKED not because they were COOL. I guess thats what happens when you grow from 3.5% of the computing market to a whopping 5%!
