i got a ticket for rolling through a stop sign, the cop was hiding round the corner. but anyways,

the fine was a 130 dollars. and i have heard that if you pay by check and pay a dollar over the amount, they have to send you the dollar check back, and if you just toss or shred the check, the ticket will never go on your record, because the transaction was never complete.

is this true? anyone tried it?

My friend got the same ticket last weekend except his was only $115. I wouldn't risk it personaly and just pay what it is and let it go. There might be a way around it but in the end it will probably come up again and you might have to do all kinds of other stuff to get it resolved.

It didn't work for me. I tried it with a speeding ticket once and they mailed the check back to me with a letter stating that it had to be for the exact amount. That doesn't mean it won't work for you since I'm sure this varies from precinct to precinct.

If you're really worried about it I'd just show up to court and ask for court supervision. The judge will most likely give it to you (unless you've amassed a significant record) and it should drop from your record after xx number of months with no violations.

you might as well try to appeal it, they might let you off with a warning. thats what happened to me, i went through a yellow light and i got a 100 ticket, and i appealed it and then they just said dont let it happen again

i read about this somewhere and it said something about this but it said it was false. i wish i could show the article but i cant remember where. but it doesnt work.

It doesn't work, my bro got two speeding tickets summin up to $400. 6 weeks later they sent letters, Basically from there if he dint pay the tickets, then its court and warrant out for arrest plus disabled licesne.

Just pay it.

just take it to court half the time the cop doesnt give a fuck enough to show up, and if they dont show you automatically win. well at least in MA

If the judge is a dick he will push the court date back. My friend has Gone for the same ticket twice already and he is going a third.

two days ago i rolled through a GREEN LIGHT and all of a sudden traffic stopped so my car is somewhat blocking the intersection im like shit now i look like an asshole, this bike cops walks up to my car and tells me to pull over to the curb. fucking 205 dollars for going through a green light, completely accidental. im sooo appealing this shit.

You'll most likely get a plea bargain from the prosecutor (aka they drop it to a lesser offense).

were you in burlington by any chance? thats apparently their new dick law to enforce this year.

yupppppp right by the jughandle by patrick gym and shit, 3 people were pulled over in a row for it, i was in the middle, one in front of me and one in the back. thats why im appealing it, they pulled over sooo many people for it, the cop was just standing on a curb like 20 feet from his bike waiting for people to make the mistake.

seriously, the worst thing that could happen from me blocking it is someone has to wait 5 seconds for traffic to move forward. GOD FUCKING FORBID SOMEONE WAIT 5 WHOLE SECONDS.

before you pay the ticket, go to court cuz you will have a better chance of reducing the fine and having it off your record

actually the worst that could happen is your traffic is so jammed that you don't get a chance to move. Then when the lane your blocking goes green they could lose a whole green light cause your stuck right in front of them. All because you couldn't just wait until traffic in front of you made it across the intersection. Enjoy the fine, you won't beat that in court.

That doesn't work... tried it and they kept my extra dollar. Probably went into the doughnut fund. Going to court really depends on the cop and judge. I tried it one time but the cop was a frickin douche and lied right to my face and the judge's too and even after I had the radar and the cop beat, he came back and said that in his 4 years of training to be a cop he was taught visual estimation and that was sufficient. Then the prosecutor got my fine upped from $120 to $270 because I have had previous tickets. I was livid but basically they can do what they want to try to keep you from fighting the ticket. BS. Some people have had better luck but my town is a piece of shit for asshat cops.

not true. now im MA there is a cop (doesn't have to be the cop that pulled you over) appointed to the court for the traffic violation day. they sit with you and the judge.

what if a cop going to a scene of a shooting, an ambulance rushing someone in critical condition to the hospital, or a firetruck rushing to save someones house comes to the intersection, because of you, they could die or w/e. i know it an extreme but still. its a simple law meant for those reasons.

the real question is why couldnt you just wait 10 seconds for the light to switch back to green and then you go? its not like u were going thru the start of the intersection on the gas and saw no one stopping, then before you got to the end everyone was on the breaks stopped, it cant possibly happen that fast. in traffic, especially wen theres a cop around, ur not supposed to even start going thru the intersection until the person infront of u is all the way thru...ur arguement isnt gonna get u anywhere. i dont mean to go at u or anything, ive done the same thing before accidentally but what ur saying is just kinda dumb.

and the thread starter, just pay the fine. thats such a low fine its not worth arguing really. send in the ticket not guilty, go in for the pre-trial thing, talk to the district attorney and take w/e they will give you. fighting it in court is just gonna cost u more

if you go into th court house on your designated day they will cut the ticket in half, i got a 280 dollar ticket and paid 140, plead guilty and they said go to the next window and pay the newley designated amount(140)

that rule doesnt apply everywhere. every court does things differently, most dont do it this way. however, most do have a court fee, then w/e fee is on top of it. 130 is prolly as low as it gets. court fees are usually anywhere between 50-100+. you wont get much lower unless it goes to a parking violation which is still a 100+ fine but no points. if they give you that then just take it.

actually it is very true. Why? becuase i got a ticket took it to court, then lost when i saw the magistrate because the cop did show up that time, but the ticket was BS so i appealed it again in court this time. And when i went the cop didnt show up and i didnt have to pay the fine. so it is very true.
