So i dislocated my hip...

I was having an excellent day in the park on saturday, landing new tricks, gaining confidence spinning switch, etc.... until i tried my very first backflip. I didn't quite commit to the flip (in otherwords I took off and only sent myself backseat) when i realized the flip wasn't going to happen i tried my best to get myself forward (against any laws of physics). I ended up landing directly on my right ass cheek, and right away i knew something was wrong, my right leg was pretty much limp and i was in the WORSE PAIN i have ever felt (I've torn my ACL, seperated my shoulder, broken bones, but nothing compared to this...)

After an agonizing 2 hours before i recieved any kind of pain killer, they finally tried to set it at the first hospital (in springville NY) without knocking me out... that hurt like hell. AFter they failed, I was transfered to ECMC in buffalo (great hospital) where they had my joint back in place within the hour. I spent the night in the hospital and I'm back home now. THey prescribed me Vicodin, which is some of the most intense pain killer I have ever taken (other than via drips). Now i have to schedule surgery with an orthopedist to remove some bone fragments later this week.

Spark Notes: tried my first backy, landed on my ass, dislocated my hip (very very painful), and I am now waiting on a surgery to remove bone fragments...

moral of the story: NEVER DISLOCATED YOUR HIP. IT HURTS LIKE A BITCH.

has anyone ever done this? how long am I going to be off snow for? better yet, how long until I can friggen walk?

sucks to hear that man. If you're getting surgery you're gonna need time to heal and shit. I'd say a few weeks after surgery and you'd be good to go. Although I've never dislocated my hip before.
Go back when you feel that you're ready.

Once upon a time about 8 years ago I was snowboarding and fell super hard and dislocated my hip. It took me about a month before I was able to walk down stairs (thats the worst part I think). I was out for 2 months after that.
Now my hip hurts when I have to walk more than 2 miles. Went on a 5 mile hike 2 years ago in Yosemite...... worst Idea ever when 2.5 miles were down hill.
I can ski all day just fine but I can't snowboard for more than 3 hours. (I never had surgery though)

have you ever had surgery?

after dislocating my shoulder twice this ski season i have just learned that my orthopedist is pretty certain i will have to get surgery this summer. this of course is after the first surgery i had two years ago.

yea I've had surgery but not for any broken bones or dislocated joints. I really wasn't sure how long it would take to rehabilitate after an injury like that, it was a quick guess.

thanks for the vibes guys.

by far the hardest thing i've had to do is get in and out of bed.... but it seems like I am able to put a little more pressure on my food, although my hip joint is still hella stiff.

i was with my friend when he dislocated his, looked like it hurt so much, i hope i never have to go through that, but on a side note i have a crack in the lower left side of my hip

it's been a week since i dislocated it now, and it's feeling a little better. I am much more mobile and the joint feels very secure, but it still hurts constantly, so I'm forced to take vicodin continuously (i tried to take very little yesterday but that was no fun). the ass cheek on my good leg is really tender now too because it was seriously bruised and now im sitting on it all the time.

I find out when my surgery is on Tuesday, hopefully it is soon rather than later.

2 weeks ago i over shot a jump doing a backflip and landed pretty much straight on my ass. The kids I was skiing with put my skis on my feet and I skied down. An hour later we tried to leave but I couldn't get in the car because my hip was swollen so much it wouldn't bend.

Ended up with a partial tear in my hamstring, a bruised lung, and a hyper extended knee. There is still like a baseball size swelling in my hip (at one point it was like I had 2 ass cheeks on one side) and a bruise from my mid back to my knee. Can't ski for another month. So I'm with you that hip injuries suck.
