i was on my way home from a friends house and i headed into a right turn going too fast and i started to slide sideways on the ice. i ended up being stopped by a snowbank on the side of the road. i got out and assessed the damage. the side-view mirror was gone, there were a few dents, but nothing too significant. then i managed to maneuver my way out of the snowbank and drive home. once home, i had to tell my mother (i am 17 years old) what had happened. so then we went to a body shop to get an estimate. the guy at the shop found several other dents that i had not seen, including a rather significant one on the hood of the car, and a missing fog light. he calculated the damage to be about $6700. luckily, we do have insurance with a $500 deductible. so most of the cost will be covered. But i have been and will spend the rest of this week being chewed out and reprimanded by my parents.

there is no real point to this thread. just wanted to write that down to make myself feel a little better after the shittiest day so far this year. and it is far from over.

feel free to share your stories below.

that is all.

Wow, dope you had collision insurance. My parents didn't get me collision, which sucked but i mean my car was like 2000 bucks, i had to pay like 2-3g in car damages my first year of driving (i fucked up twice real bad) but since then (knock on wood) im doing good.

Wow, dope your parents got you insurance. My parents didn't get me insurance, I pay 1600 a year for liability

Bummer dude, you must have a shitty driving record if you're paying that much for just liability..

Bummer, hopefully this makes you feel better:

To make it better it happened in nowhere WY while driving from MI to WA. The nearest town didn't allow one-way car rentals so the only option was to hand over the credit card and buy another car. The important part is that while the Thule exploded no skis or snowboards were damaged in the production of this photo...oh yeah, no body was hurt either

no it's just god damn alberta insurance. no tickets or anything, in fact it should be more but I took drivers ed

Ah canada, i get it now. i think mine was MAYBE that high when i was 15 haha, at 22 now its probably at least half of that, with collision.

damn, i almost did the same thing. during the day it was sunny so it melted the snow a little on to the entire side of the road i was on and it froze at night and became a sheet of ice on this really tight bend. didnt see it and i couldnt break in time because it just wouldve made the car slide. when i hit the ice i lost complete traction then somehow got it back right before i went off of the road in to a field. i felt lucky as hell

I just paid $2100 out of pocket for this shit:

I only have liability because comprehensive is so expensive, still made out on top vs paying for extra insurance all these years it just sucks that I had to pay it all at once.

dude what the fuck connor i went in reading this thread then thought wow that sucks, then i saw it was your thread and i was shocked, cause i drove home today probably around the same time, where the fuck did you crash it? hope everything gets better.

i crashed a car recently too. really sucks.

it was my friends car actually... we snuck out of my house (1:30 am) and he asked if i wanted to drive and i say "ya sure" (never do this by the way). we were half way to my friend gus's house when my dad texts me: "come home we know you snuck out". so i was like damn well i guess we better turn around. I swung wide on a 2 lane road in order to make a u turn and when i cut back across i cut off a guy and he hit us right in the drivers side door. pretty hard, but no one was hurt. we pulled into a lot near the crash site and sorted it out. turned out my buddy's car had no insurance. the damage came to 6000 for both cars and we agreed to split the cost. on top of all of this it happened at about 1:40am new years day. (I consider it to have happened in 2010 though. no need to start off the year with this).

yup... sux

just crashed on my way to go skiing cause i was in a rush to get my shred on. so pissed. i cant ski tonight and now i have to deal with all this stuff.. insurance will cover everything but reading this thread has made me feeel better. thanks NS

i hit a patch of mud from farmers tractors bout a month ago and put my car into the ditch. estimated at 4000-4500 for mechanical and body repair, but i bought used parts and fixed it with a few buddys and it cost a grand total of 1400$. used the rest to buy a sled.

booya

Good thing you're okay, and you still have a car!

I hydroplaned in August and my car decided to go down a bank and take out some trees along the way.

I no longer have a car, but I did claim it and my insurance (with premiums) will be approximately $3000 for a year on a $4000 car.

That's shitty man, I have only crashed my car twice and both times no damage. It just under steered on a corner and hit a snow bank (same corner both times.) Learn from you're mistakes, this is my third winter under my belt and accident free so far. People need to slow down though, my route home from school was closed because some guy ran off the road smoked a rock cut and rolled his truck three times and died, it feels weird driving down that road now knowing some one just lost there life on it recently.

That sucks dude.

Ive never really had any bad accidents at all yet. Come close several times but nothing major.

All i've really hit is a stopsign, and i put the suburban in the ditch going 40 (6 foot snowbank slowed me down). Driving a suburban home for an hour with no powersteering sucks ass.

caused about 2 grand if damage to my jetta gettin too ignant in the school parking lot, ahahahha hit a guardrail and bent the frame and dented the corner in and blew up the trunk... havnt fixed it and most likly wont ahhaha
