So how do you feel about Dave Matthews Band?

They are doing a show in my hometown in August and alot of kids are really pumped about it.

I am not one of those kids.

I am far from a hater, but I just gotta say I cannot stand this band. The drummer sucks, the saxophone player plays with his asshole/nose i swear to god, and Dave's voice is reeeally annoying.

Am i the only one? How do you feel about DMB?
 
i personally love them, they are a real chill band and its a lot better than all the other stuff going around now like rap and shit. i also know a lot of people that dont likle their style, but whateve man
 
hate them, fake hippy music where frat boys just go to have somewhere else to get drunk and talk about push-ups and hair gel. one of my friends claims he started the riot at the hartford show a couple years ago by yelling at a crowd of dousches "CHINESE LETTER TATTOOS SUCK!"
 
O sorry we arent into hardcore screaming, or whatever you fucking listen to. DMB is a good band, they have a good mix of music, and actually he is a very tallented gituar player.
 
I used to love them in middle school and high school - seen them like 10-12 times or something. The last year, though, I can't help but notice the huge douchebaggery ensues whenever the band is mentioned, played, or plays a show. I still like the music from time to time (not something I listen to regularly) but I can't see myself going to another dmb show, as there are far too many douchebags at them.
 
The music is ok, but far from the best. The fans make me want to kill people. Here is a quote from a dumbass dmb fan I know:

"Dave Matthews is the best musician ever! Like, when they play shows, sometimes they just like, go with it, and play stuff that wasn't even part of the original song! I bet you don't know any other band that can do that!"

Yeah dude, it's called improvisation. Get a fuckin clue. If you don't know what that is then you're not qualified to be claiming you know who the best band ever is. DMB fans are frat fags who love to claim but dont know what the hell they're talking about.

Plus he sold out hardcore. I know you can't really hold this against a band, who doesn't want to sell out and make mad cash. Well I'll tell you who. The Grateful Dead.
 
I feel like so many people like them just so they can say they like them. It seems like dave matthews fits perfectly into the genre of kids that want to be known as the hippies of generation x. Companies like American Eagle, Abercrombie, Aeropostale etc cater to these kids, giving them advertising featuring kids enjoying simple pleasures on the beach, playing guitar and just hanging out with friends. Most of these kids will emulate what they see in the advertising, and then after they are finished enjoying their simple pleasures, they hop in their jettas that mommy and daddy bought for them, and go. Dave Matthews fits into this because he gained a cult like following in the 90's, from which the word "chill" originated. From what I have seen, "chill" embodies everybody holding in their emotions, and not really expressing any of their inner feelings. This implies a sense of deepness, because everyone seems to be myseterious. Dave caters to these kids with his songs, which all happen to have somewhat mysterious lyrics, but still involve lots of celebration. Out of the 150 kids in my senior class, About 2/3 worship Dave Matthews like a deity. Probably a third of those kids actually like Dave Matthews, and respect his music. The rest listen to him because they will be looked at as these "chill" kids.
 
I just have a completely different understanding of what "chill" is I guess. I consider a person chill if they are open minded, unassuming, easy to have a good time with, not high strung, and certainly not obsessed with fitting the abercrombie image like described above.
 
^agreeeee and you'll find that 80% of poeple at shows are not true DMB fans, they really are the fags and douches. but myself, im a huge fan and always have been. ive been to a lot of shows at a lot of places. i go to alpine valley, WI everyyear and theres 45,000 fucking people there...and i hate 40,000 of them cause they are not fans and are fags. but they are there to party and have a good time, so whatever, again to each his own.

but saying they are a bunch of wanna-be hippies that suck and abercrombie this birkenstock that.....is just wrong.

tell me this how many bands do u know that have played 100-150+ shows every year since 1992???? anyone???? nope nope and nope, they are none, phish and a few other jam bands are the only people that come close.

go listen to 50cent some more homos
 
saw him in 95 ,,, tight saw him at 05 lame... hes a fuckin winer,,, and his whole carrer is based on that his fans are dosed out of there gourds.... i mean hell

are you talking about dave's "interpretation" of all along the watchtower? because i watched that and it was so bad i threw up. i was actually insulted by how bad it was.
 
Never really liked them until a few weeks ago. I didn't hate them before but my cousins were obsessed with them. I needed a change in music though and decided to try them out. I'm open minded so I don't really listen to what other people say about things.
 
Used like until I went to a show. Everyone sang along to every song they played. I'm a huge fan of live music so it ruined it for me when I knew I could never see them with out listing to the frat boy next to me singing along.

Good thing there's a tone of other great bands to check.
 
Ok for all you haters...in most cases you base judgement on their STUDIO MUSIC.

I cannot listen to ANY form of DMB non-live music.

They are awesome live. ex the central park concert is prob my favorite cd of all time. you def gotta hear their stuff live before deciding.

he OBVIOUSLY sucks because you don't like what he plays. I mean, what kind of GOOD drummer would be able to play his own drum parts AND the parts that the percussionist (who died before the band got big) used to play at the same time? NOT a good drummer, I'll tell ya that!
 
or he DOES play them well, but you don't like WHAT it is. He plays WHAT he plays incredibly well. Do I like everything he plays? No, not at all. I personally don't like MUCH of what he plays. He's far to 'mathy' for me, yet I don't go around saying he sucks because that is simply a stupid statement.

I agree with out on the wanna be chill kids, but what about the kids who actually do just like hanging out at the beach? Personally, I'm not a huge dave matthews fan, but I like chillin at the beach, and yes, I do wear american eagle shorts. I don't think that I'm that big of a d-bag, but I think that a lot of people take the stereotypes too far because of all the wannabes.

It seems a little like snowboarding (and where skiing may be going).

There are a lot of people who snowboard now because of the image, and that it's "cool." There are lots of noobs like this who suck, but I feel bad for the people who actually DO like snowboarding, and live the lifestyle, but are stereotyped as bros. and that's what might just happen to us in the next 5-10 years.
 
both of my eyes and both of my ears are open. and i still think dave matthews band sucks. i refuse to believe, after listening to him play, that the drummer is any good. open your eyes/ears dude.
 
In that case, you must either be:

a) the greatest drummer EVER.

or

b) dumb as hell.

So how long have you been playing drums?

And please, enlighten us. Who do you consider to be a few good drummers?
