So for my 18th birthday.....

Sounds sick dude, but god damn please be careful out there man.

It's been a tough couple of years for skiing, and we dont want to lose anybody else. Just be smart, think before you act, and come home in one piece. Don't let that take away from this trip, but keep it in your mind.

fucking buzzkill. i would never want to ski with you.

I would be about to drop into a line and the last thing you would say is "be careful i really dont want you to kill yourself!". Fuck that!

Dude is going out with a group of people and a guide whose job is to keep you safe. he will be fine. please stop trying to spread your angst about the dangers of the sport. you should be stoking other skiers up, not putting doubt, and tentativness into their head.

seriously? ya, you sound like a great partner to ski with.

seriously^

also this sounds like a senseless thing to say but if something happened to the op it wouldnt have as big of an impact on the world of skiing as loosing several absolute skiing ledgends

pretty sure evan is 13 and from the east coast so knows nothing about avalanches or how a bc skiing operation works

errrrrr, right cause heli ops allow you to ski where you think is best or where you want . You are told what to do 99% of the time .

Hahahaha

If you ever skied with me you would definatly take that back. I would never hold somebody back unless it was something that was just downright stupid. I didn't tell him not to have fun or some bullshit like that, I just told him to be safe and smart. Just because he has a guide, it doesnt mean he cant get in some serious shit.

If I had said "please dont go, its pretty dangerous out there, we dont want you to die." Then, you might have an argument, but as of right now, you're just twisting my words around to make me sound like a dick.

everyone knows the risks. no need to introduce bad memories/vibes into a situation full of stoke for zero reason at all.

what was the point of your post?

fucking buzzkill. do you remind your friends to be safe when they go out partying? or do you say have a great time?

you are gonna be a great overprotective parent.

Well, I'm 14 so that doesn't apply to me.

However, in that situation i would say something along the lines of "yo have fun, dont get arrested."

Using humor, but still being serious.....

i, nor anyone i know would appreciate you saying that. to be fully successful in something you need to fully commit. its hard to fully commit when you have doubts. and when its someone else putting those doubts into your head, you resent that person.

14 explains a lot to me. and i dont mean that in a demeaning way at all, its just you have yet to experience life away from the culture of your family.

I disagree, for me I like when somebody tells me to be careful. It promotes growth and helps me try things because i know somebody is there for me as well as supporting me. I feel better going into anything with some wise words to remind me of the consequences and what i need to do and how i need to do it.

you know when someone has support for you if they were to say "holy shit that sounds like an awesome present, have fun man!" not "dont get burried in 20 feet of snow and suffocate to death, it can happen easily in that type of situation, but have fun man!"

holy shit you are extremely idiotic...ALL he is saying is to be safe, in no way does that imply he should doubt his safety and such..leave, you are ruining all the stoke in this thread

Dismount your big old high horse bro.

He's not going backcountry touring with his buddies. He's going on a heli-skiing trip with a professional organization.

You do as they say and shred what they say you can shred

wow this is an AWESOME present. remember this thread, you're epic go pro edit must be posted here upon arrival :P

did not know there was any heli ski operator on the island. Is there one? if so what is it called? Or are you and your buddy just getting a local heli op to bump you up for a run?

How fucking old are you? Evan was being very polite, telling you to be safe because YES, contrary to the popular belief it IS DANGEROUS. He said don't let it take away from your trip. He wasn't hating or trying to be a buzzkill. Him telling you on NS is completely different than him saying the same at the top of a run. If I had to guess ages I'd guess you guys are younger than Evan.

two whistler patrollers (who are supposed to know how avalanche situations should be handled) have died in avalanches this year, and a tourist with a heli skiing operation in the Rockies died with a "group of people and a guide whose job is to keep him safe"

having fun and being safe don't have to be two separate things. Yea its the responsibility of the tour guides to keep you safe, but you can't very well sue them from under 15 feet of snow.

To The OP: I live right near the base of washington, are you actually heli skiing on washington, or a nearby mountain in strathcona park? because there are groomed trails that cover most of the entire mountain if you just wanted to hike/tour it or rent snowmobiles.

i went to a strip club for my 18th.... heli skiing would have been way sicker haha..... although the titttes were nice lol

not too bad of a price... if the visibility and stability work out, you could totally get some decent lines down.

noted for sure.
