So Cal Skiing

I ski in the southeast US.

Next March (2011) my family and I are going to San Diego and Riverside for a few days to visit my wife's best friend and some of my cousins.

I'm gonna try and send my wife and son with my cousins to disneyland while I enjoy myself. So, where do you like for skiing in March in SoCal and why?

Looking for input on Snow Valley, Waterman, Snow Summit/bear mtn, Mt. Baldy, and Mtn high.

Another option might be to get a cheap (relatively) day flight to somewhere else like mammoth. i have no clue if such things even exist but i swear Ive seen 99 dollar flights to mammoth that left early in the morning and returned in the late evening.

any help you can give would be appreciated.

Big Bear and Mt. High are pretty sick. Depends on which you are closest too. Mt. High is closest to Disneyland. Probably only an hour and fifteen minutes. And there are a lot of rails and park features there. There jumps are ok but not great though. Rails are fantastic though. Bear has more to offer but is a further drive

your really only best bet is big bear/snow summit. mountain high is mediocre at best, baldy is great if you go after/in a storm.

I ski at bear, its nothing great but def. Is better than mt.high or baldy.... a few decent jumps and aot of unique rails.....hit up bear fersure

Honestly, any input we give on how the mountains will be next March (with the possible exception of Mammoth) is pretty unreliable at this point. It all depends on how much snow we get next winter and how quickly it gets warm next March. If the snowpack is good, you'll probably want to go to Bear (it's a better mountain). If the snowpack is bad, go to High (they have better snow making capabilities). If you can possibly get to Mammoth, go to Mammoth. Baldy and Waterman generally aren't worth skiing in March.

Bump this thread in late February!

i would say there is no way bear won't have good coverage and a bomb park by march, baring shit tons of rain and heat.

go to bear

Summit/Bear is probably your best best. One lift ticket is good for both mountains with shuttles in between so thats pretty cool. They have the best park. I ride Mt High and its much closer to LA but from OC area (where DIsneyland is) I think it might not even be that much closer. Mt High's entire mountain is a park with features on almost every run. Tons of creative rails and features but mediocre jumps (Although if its a good season by March there are some pretty big ones up, and they stay well groomed because no one really hits them because people that ride Mt High aren't used to them lol). Also there are like no other park skiers there at all, its basically all snowboarders. Baldy is down after a storm but not for park. Snow Valley sucks don't go there, its worth the extra 20 minutes to get to bear. Never heard of Waterman.
And of course if you can get to Mammoth it blows everything in SoCal out of the water, and there are actually a lot of other park skiers there.
