Thread = letdown. Probably a good thing, but this could have been a positive learning experience for him potentially. LOL @ building own cabin. Does he have any idea how IMPOSSIBLE that is without a horse or mule to drag the logs? First he has to cut them to length, and they have to be the appropriate type of tree. Then he has to limb them. Now he needs to de-bark them. Next they need to be dragged into position (these will weight several hundred pounds each). He now needs to notch them so that they will nest together correctly. This will take a LOT of logs. Next comes the chinking of the cracks, using a mixture of bark, stones, and daub. Does he know how to make daub, or a similar substitute? Hint: the horse helps with this. Next comes to roof. Raising a roof by oneself is nearly impossible, even if one has a complete set of pulleys and lots of rope. Next up: a chimney! Time to find lots and lots of flagstones and other rocks. What is he going to use to keep this together? Hint: different from daub. Without a proper chimney, if he has a fire he will either burn down the cabin or die of co2 poisoning. (possible both in one shot) OK, he has somehow managed all of this. Time for a door. How is he going to cut through the sides of the cabin he built, and fasten a door? What about a window? I guess he could skip the window and be ok, but it will be gloomy and very dark. Maybe he is a candlemaker and this won't be a problem.
Oh, did he find a level spot? Did he properly prepare the area for building beforehand? Did he manage to cut all these trees, prepare a building site, and have smoky fires without being noticed by authorities? After all, it is illegal to build a structure on public land, illegal to cut trees (living or dead) on public land, and can sometimes be illegal to even have a fire on public land. Haha, kid is clueless. I'm sure he doesn't know the answer to a single one of these questions. Unfortunately to survive a winter he will need to correctly answer each and every one of these questions, not just in theory but in practice. So yeah, I guess living with his sister might be just a little bit easier.
