SO- as i was telling some of you this weekend, snowstar is going to be sick this year. I know most of you have never heard of it, but i figured i'd make a thread about it. Snowstar is on the Illinois side of the quad cities, about 1.5 hr from dubuque. i have no pics so this is what we will have this year. oh yeah and its tiny, so we will just fit in as many of these features as possible, it will be features everywhere. no lines, you can easily get 2 runs per song on your ipod!OLD:-40ft flat rail-stair set with down rail and down box-big ass whale tail (prolly won't even get set up this year)-urban style down rail, double barrel-lots of other small shitty stuffNEW FEATURES:-HUGE rainbow box that is dope, probably 15 ft. out of snow when its said and done-8 new flat boxes-quarter pipe-box material with coping-mellow up-down rail, 15ft up/15 down-double barrel-triple barrel down-flat-down....7x7x7 or so-40+ ft long wide rail (former lift tower) has had wall ride sides added to each side
there is more that i'm forgetting. lets just say we have features out the ass. we also got a new cat this year which is way more park specific than our old one. also, they let us set stuff up on our own, for example, saturday morning we set up two boxes and had a private hike only film session at the top of the mountain. the park crew is also willing to set stuff up however we want it. basically, its sick as hell. everyone should come check it out at least once this year. this video is about half of the new features, the DFD and the up-down were just built in the last month or so.

sorry this post is so long, i'm just really stoked for my tiny mountain to be incredibly sick.
 
haha dude i went to their website and the hill is sooo small...that's sick though, with all those features you could get so many laps in
I may possibly have to come check this out this year, because i might be coming down to chesnut for a weekend sometime
 
at first i though this was the organization snowstar that we have around here where they go skiing diff places
 
sickk dude.. im soo stoked to live there this winter..

10-12 inches are supposed to hit wednesday, if we have a snowday ill be hiking..

otherwise im SOO stoked for saturday.
 
This place reminds me of Elm Creek in MN. except a bit bigger.

These tiny hills with decent rail parks are the most fun places, chill vibe,fast laps, and great groups of people. best times of my life
 
snowstar was fun before but with all these new features its gonna be dope. the down flat down and the mellow up down are sick as hell. there's gonna be too many features for the mountain. oh yeah the rainbow is looking sweet as hell. cant wait to get this poppin
 
bump this cause i was there yesterday and we had a 35 ft kicker. Snowstar is hella legit this year
 
yeah thats what i'm talkin about! im sure we'll meet when i recover from my goddamn ankle injury....
 
gnar gnar you make me laugh. why do you think so many people that ski at sundown go to Chestnut?? its cause Chestnuts better than sundown. i know from a very good source that sundown is it going to be good at all. you should just drive the extra 15-20 minutes to Chestnut it will be worth it trust me.
 
All you snowstar ppl should come to chestnut. I'm not hatin on snowstar, but chestnut has its shit together, and is definately worth the trip. We have 26 features set up right now and sundown gargles my balls.
 
it is an hour and a half, and we usually do go up there often, but its not worth it this year until snowstar gets more played out. too legit.
 
Whats the setup like right now? I heard there was a rail jam or something there this saturday and we might head down there to check it out.
 
Just got done seshin a fresh 52 ft hit... theres also another smaller jump next to it. a qp, they took out all the rails and boxes on the bunny hill but i heard they plan to put them back in before saturday. The big hit is soooo nice and the qp is at the end of it at the bottom of the hilll so you can hit both. it was pretty legit today.

and to the person above me yes there is a rail jam/comp on saturday at 2. the feature is the 52ft hit and the quarter.
 
depends how much you like park. I came from CO and i like it alot, but it also has to do with the kids that ride there SKI SNOWSTAR '09-'10 from Taylor Krick on Vimeo.

that video was a really good representation of what snowstar is like, in multiple ways. First there is way more snowboarders than skiers, however in the 2 years i have been going there often i have noticed a large increase in the talent and number of the skiers(maybe its just me). Secondly the video was more than 3/4's rails which is what i think snowstar is like but we also have some decent kickers, the one shown with the double back is a 55 and it showed up in late january? i think. But we also had a good 40' that was there pretty much the entire season along with some other smaller jumps that came and went throughout the season.

Im looking forward to next year already!!!
 
you will have fun, you can get an entire run in down and up the lift in less than 5minutes = tons of runs. Also the liftlines are never long 2 minutes was probably the most i waited this year, and cheap good food. if you can find some people to ride with you will be set. Also i see you are going to augie, i go to alleman a high school literally up the road. And it only takes 20-25 minutes to get there from school
 
and if you need a seasons pass i might be able to get you in my friends group, were getting them for 125 (300) retail since weve got a massive group
 
sick, ill definately make it fun somehow and thats uper close to campus! Theres gotta be some kids at augie that ski!

And i would definately be interested in that deal, but as of now i have no idea how much im going to be able to ski so idk if it would be worth it.
 
ya you will but you could ride with some of us high school guys if you wanted :).
