Snowshoes or crampons

Dont have the money for touring setup yet but im going to be bcing in Montana. Snowshoes or crampons?? i have a quality pack so carying either is no issue.
 
haha you definitely dont want to be walking around in the bc wearing crampons. They would be used for climbing on icy surfaces mostly. Snowshoes suck, just ask any snowboarder who was in the bc before split boards were a thing. Trekers also kind of suck, but they would be the best budget choice. You want the weight of your skis on the ground, not on your pack...
 
I think in the end the Trekker would be a better choice. You would have more float with your skis, plus you wouldn't have to carry them. Then when you reach you drop in point all you have to do is throw then in your pack and not have to strap snow shoes onto your pack
 
I just picked up a pair of mfd all times on sale they are looking supper sturdy and you can get the plate that fits your binding plus they are less money than the bca trekker. Good luck on what ever you do tho
 
have only heard bad things about people using MFD's either shifting the camber of the ski and entirely changing the flex to seeing them straight break while skinning uphill....they are a good idea in theory but need more research and development
 
You sir have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Probably a good idea to stay safely inbounds til you have a clue of what is going on.
 
crampons are good for ice, and that's about it, whereas snowshoes are actually for traveling on top of the snow. So unless the only touring you're doing is climbing up icy faces with ropes and ice axes, go with snowshoes, or don't go out in the backcountry.
 
I'm gonna agree with most other people and say get trekkers and skins, even though I fucking hate trekkers. Next time you get new bc skis mount them with alpine touring bindings (such as the salomon guardian 16, fantastic binding), and going uphill will be far easier.
 
unless ur ski-mountaineering you wont need crampons, but some people are super into that so maybe you'll want to invest in it someday. depends on what ya dig. never heard of skiers using snow shoes. serious question* has anybody actually done that?
 
Honestly just get yourself a pair of second hand Dukes. They are not the best touring binder but they are way better than snowshoes. Or PM me and I can sell you a touring setup on the cheap with a 189 RAMP or a 191 G3 they both come with dukes and skis. Lemme know.

yea ill be selling mine before this winter. I already had p18s when i bought them so it was a fairly cheap option. I havent had any problems yet, but theyre just way too heavy. If im touring i dont want to carry fucking p18s on top of big metal plates. I also only weigh 140, ill be fine on dynafits.
