some buddies and I are planning a trip to nz for the summer and were trying to find a place near snowpark to stay.. somewhere cheap like maybe a hostel (not hotel, hoStel) of some kind? if anyone knows where a decent place to stay around there or lives around there let me know

thanks

i'm pretty sure you have to drive up a sketchy road to get to snow park and i think wanicka is the closest town snow park with a hostel

nah you wouldnt wana be walking to snowpark from wanaka

there will probably be shuttle busses from wanaka to cardrona/snowpark or you could try your luck hitching rides.

theres limited accomodation at the cardrona village but itd probably be pretty expensive.

I dunno im not a wanaka local anyways

your pretty much right.

most of the mountains in nz are ski/board only, and have a very limited on mountain accomodation sorta setup, and yeh...best bet would be to find somewhere in wanaka, then get a shuttle, and considering theres like 3 mountains around there you should be pretty right.

walking up, is practically impossible.

but have fun over there. nz is awesome. season last year was about june to october...have fun!

hehehe...sorry mate.

i clicked on someones profile in here to see if they were kiwi, and it came up with like, no home town, no mountain, nothing except name, post count, pic of ski or board or whatever, and join date thingy...

clearly that wasnt you. otherwise i wouldnt have typed all that.

i hate you.

sorry for that outburst, but im looking out at a nice sunny 20something degree day and i wont be getting over to nz for a few months yet.

even then it will probably be to christchurch and up to hutt or something.

we used to know people that had a cattle farm in wanaka, and we would stay there, but theyve moved further out now.

at Snowpark you can stay on the mountain in a bunk for $35 NZ a night in mid winter. last year we stayed for $20 (late season/spring)a night each . we had the restaurant and big screen downstairs all to ourselves. plus i saw JP ripping it up while i was there!

yea the season doesnt start til june anyways I think concrete peak is planning on opening 10th june but most other places late june.

I think I might head up to mt hutt for a weekend this season cause a couple of mates are at cantubury uni so free accom there. but im gonna be living up in arrowtown for all the winter uni holidays.. yeehaw!

lucky you.

i dont think ill be getting more than a few days in this year, practice exams are in september holidays and then actual exams are in november. only holidays i get before that are in june july.

stupid bloody year 12.

usually get over to chch at least once a year, better than the shit we get here in aus.

Try googling the Purple Cow backpackers hostel, I stayed there in 2003 and it was cool. I think a dorm bed was around 20 kiwi dollars. Hitching up to the mountains is pretty easy, there is normally a fair crowd hitching in the mornings, there is one crossroads where most people stand.

I'll be in queenstown but hopefully will head over to snowpark as much as possible. Hope you have a great time.

per person. about the cheapest you're gonna get anywhere is $20. I payed $15 for a tent site at the camping ground there (15 per person also)

just have a look on the net for accommodation in wanaka
