Snowmobiling X-Games

i *believe* it's just for this year, and that the idea is that a skier for instance shows up with his gear and maybe a coach, while a sledneck has like a crew for equipment and all that shit.

that's a bit of conjecture but i'm basing it off this quote:

“With the difference in the event this year, the athletes will not be coming with the large groups that you might have seen in the past,” said Vanessa Anthes, ESPN’s associate director for X Games. “They are here to do a job, and they will be coming with a manager or a coach. … It will not be an athlete plus 10.”

Yeah this seems like another piece of the puzzle for them to keep the numbers down for covid reasons, snowmobiling is like one of the most popular events at xgames so I'm sure it'll be back next year.

That makes sense, hopefully they're bringing it back because I feel like not having the x games would be tough on those athletes for exposure and sponsorships.

I know virtually nothing about snowmobile freestyle or whatever the X Games format is. Have the tricks progressed at all over, say, the past five years?

I know that they are trying to move away from freestyle ever since an accident in 2013 where Caleb Moore passed away; as well as no one can consistently double flip a 400 pound machine. But, SnoCross is still really big and now the freestyle aspect is called Speed and Style. A combination of a freestyle course along with it being timed. Entertaining for sure.

Snowbikes are the new shit, they can flip those things real easy

They actually are always coming up with crazy new things to do on em last thing was front flip and barrel roll, front lips are hardest because you can only use your brake right before you take off to get you setup but when they do a back flip you can use throttle control to get it around

I will always have a hatred of snowmobiling events because they used to always cut away from ski pipe or slope to show them.

this makes total sense when I travel in airplanes in between hundreds of strangers. Glad Xgames is doing their part to slow the spread.

eh sorry don't wanna be a dick but that fucking sucks for snowmobilers who make their livelihood and possibly their entire careers in this event.

Agreed. Pretty wild seeing somebody dub a snowmobile though. Remember walking out of the food tent and hearing the whine and turning and seeing one. Then went over and saw another one. I think both broke the fuck out if their sleds but was pretty cool.

But yeah skipping slope or pipe finals but showing all 20 laps of snowcross qualifiers sas whack.

There might not be as big of an attraction for the athletes to race in X-Games snowcross because AMSOIL Championship series usually races the same weekend. They are racing in Deadwood, South Dakota this weekend for championship points, so they either race at X-games if they have the event for whatever the prize pool is there, or build points to win the AMSOIL Championship series. Could be why they dont have the event at all. Speed and style was where it was at though.
