Snowmobiles, whats your opinion?

I gotta buy a new sled this season, and I have 2 sleds possible lined up, same price so $ is no issue.

First sled, 04 Skidoo Mxz 800 H.O. Adrenline. Rev chassis, All built up for racing, raced little, 2200 miles. Hi-rise bars, graphics kit, bout 145 pony's under the hood, slick looking sled. Benifits to this sled is a buddie of mine races for skidoo, and any part that may go wrong he could fix for cheap. Retails around 10 g's, I can pic it up for about 6.

Second Sled, 2006 Arctic Cat Crossfire 7. 700cc sled, 2500 miles, mint conditon. New model for this season, built for eastcoast boondocking. 3 year warrenty still on sled, still in showroom condition, 140 horsepower. Dam nice sled, awesome for what i'm looking at. heres a pic:

Anyone have experiance with either of these sleds? I'm fucking torn here....

 
good point, you watch slednecks and 80 percent of the riders are on skidoo, but the other 20 are on cat...
 
Skidoo. It's a trusted name and it sounds to me like you'd be better off riding something that has a much lower maintenance cost. Having a friend in the racing industry will come in handy.

...not to mention the Skidoo's gonna pull a little harder.
 
just the fact that your friend can get ski-doo parts when something breaks would make it worth it in itself. i would definitely go for the ski-doo man.
 
128" track is to short...

Stay away from that shit, it would sink like snowblades in powder.

Longer track = Float and traction, its the only way. I would say 136 for the east coast is the shortest, 141+ for the west.

As for sleds, get a yamaha, support the 4stroke, save the environment you want to ride in...

My RX-1 can keep pace with any Ski-doo or Cat and burns a fraction of the gas, and none of the oil...

ya definitley go with the ski doo, thats what I have and I fucking love it...runs so smooth, and having a friend who can fix it is key. But yah 128....thats sooo short, i dunno it is the east coast I guess, but still id at least get a 136
 
128 is way to short form crusing in the woods of New England. Ski Doos are sick machines, but the Cat may be a bit more versatile for you.

But more importantly which sled will go with your Rossi set ups?
 
This is always a good question at the beginning of any season. I will break it down for you. Ski-Doo's are heavy but reliable. Arctic Cats are light as shit and very powerful, but not very reliable. That cat would smoke the ski doo any day of the week. Go for that cat run it for two years and sell it while there is still a year warranty left. A cat without a warranty is very tough to sell.
 
i would say the second one just because if the first is built for racin and the 2nd for east coast shitfair, id say the 2nd one could take more of a beating.
 
Snowmobiles rock! They are the best way to get into the backcountry to ski sick lines that no one else has touched. Plus you can build your own kickers without having every poser at the resort fu**ing up the landing. I just got a sweet rack from X-RACK.com that makes it way smooth to carry your skis. I guess there is another company that makes racks too (CFR out of Canada)
 
snowmobiles rock, but not those who fucks up the BC. found so many great spots that a ruined by crazy ppl on snowmobiles. but its fun i guess
 
if you get the artic-crap i will fucking kill you seriously that would be the dumbest move you would ever make in your life, get the rev, 800 h.o. is pretty much the shit right now, the mach z is too heavy, i mean its good, but the 800 is just sooo solid for what your going to want to do. any other questions im me, i'm pretty big on that kindof stuff.
 
one of my teachers in school has that same mxz basically and it is such a sick sled.. he used to race for 10 years and he said he would prefer his sled now to any of his racing sleds and he lives in new york so yeah thats the one you should get+ cheap parts=no question about it
 
iv'e never had a sled that has been raced that runs right because there all built up and just blow up and break all the time because they have so much power get the atrtic cat
 
You are such a bastard for even having to ask this question. I would have killed for a sled when I was in Tahoe last season. Why would you even want a sled ion the east coast. There's no BC to go to.
 
um don't get a sled if ur using it for BC, just get skins or snowshoes, unless ur goin on some insanely long tour, which i doubt most of u are, there just a way to pollute more, be lazy and ruin the backcountry with noise
 
You'd be better off with a brand new '06 Summit 550 Fan with a 136" track for under $6k if you are going to be stupid enough to buy that 800 with a fucking 128" track on it. What a joke!

When you're ready to buy a real mountain sled, with a real mountain track on it, come back.
 
Dude's gonna be riding back east. If that's the case he'll be more worried about studs, not track length. I've got an older Summit 670 -- Bulletproof. I rode it in Tahoe for two seasons, including the last bomber season we had. It's got a 131 track, which is not the best, but will get the job done. That 800 will do just fine. Like the dude said above, try keeping that cat going after two years. Ski doo all the way.
 
I think the skidoo is the way I will go, plus my buddie has a long track kit for it and will sell it to me cheap. Bump the track up the 136 on a 800cc machine and I'm lovin life!
 
I have riden both sleds. It depends on your style of riding. The Rev chassis is fucking awesome if you're more of a standup, newschool (per say) rider. The Arctic Cats are a bit more traditional sit down riding. If I were to recommend a sled to you it would be the Yamaha RX-1. That's what I have and it's fucking sick. Four stroke, 1300cc after some modifications. This thing hauls ass. Anyway, hope this helps.
 
here is a pic of the skidoo sled... talked to the guys selling it, it has upgraded skis, high riser bars (6 inch riser with mx bars), a-arm protectors.

oh, and my buddie has an extra rear end from a race sled, so I could upgrade to a 136 inch track and rear end for like 500 bucks...
 
What!!!! Speak for your self sledding is a means to end never would i pass up a pow day with my scratchs for sledding all day, can you ride 45 degree couloirs with a sled? Ridind motorcycles when there is no snow is real fun though.
 
^you have obviously never experienced a powder day on a sled then have you. I love skiing as much as anyone else here...but god damn riding a sled in powder is damn near as fun as skiing.
