i live in maine. and my mountain opening day is nov.12. but ive looked at the 10 day forecast which extends until like the 2nd or something and theyre suppose to start making snow the first but the temps are gonna like stay the same. High 45-50 and low of 30-35. Can they make snow in these temps and if so will it melt during the day

in most cases it needs to be 28 F or below, it depends on the humidity but that is usually the highest that it will work at.

ive got a dope one (talking about run in ramps)....ill get pictures soon...its six feet high and six feet tall with a ten ft drop ramp

you can make snow at 40 farenheit as long as the humidity is 0 haha

Logic Headware....temporary site is up, its about to blow up. where will you be?

Moving to BC really opened up my eyes to what skiing is really about. HINT: Skiing isn't about tiny verticals, shit talking, and private clubs galore. well the air is pretty dry and the mountain has gotten some flakes a couple of times. All i can do is pray and wait. and the sun does suck that piece of shit, i wish it was just always winter.

Linemaverick, yeha it can snow at 40 degrees but that is because the water freezes up higher in th clouds where it is below freezing then falls to the ground. In the case of snowmaking the water only goes up like 100 feet in the air. So if it's too warm the water won't have the chance to freezy. So sorry buddy if it doesn't start getting colder your screwed. And yes of course the snow will melt during the day at 45 degrees. It's not magic snow, still just frozen water.

I think rails in general are just a phase. - Anthony Boronowski

and..... remember Tenney? Tenney MTN, NH had a system where they made snow at higher temps with some wierd method... even had a snow jam summer before last.

sunday river can make snow at like 35... plus the mountain temps will be at least 5 degrees cooler than normal elevation.

*all hail to the mighty gods of snow*

i invited you into my snowmaking forum..

but, it snowmaking is not simply temperature, but humidy also and the combination between the too which is the web bulb temp. Anyways, they would be able to blow snow at night, but it would melt during the day. I wouldnt expect them to be blowing.

Tenney implements temperature independant snowmaking, which basically makes the snow in enclosed chambers then puts it on the slopes. As far as normal snowmaking is concerned, the wet bulb needs to be 28 to make anything. So unless the relative humidity is around nothing, i wouldnt look for them to do much good.
