Ok so im a more park riding snowboarder but also knows how enjoy shredding the MTN too. I did some skiing last year cause most guys in our crew are skiers and another snowboarder. i really want to switch to skiing but am having a tough time deciding cause i am a pretty good snowboarder and put in lots of seasons to get were i am at but i feel like i would enjoy skiing alot more. i just feel like its starting over and ill be that slow sucky kid in the group i feel like. Any advise to help my decition?

well, if i were you i wouldnt, but it really depends whether your willing to put the time and effort in to get good at skiing, or you would always feel id rather be snowboarding because you wont be able to do as much.

I switched to skiing last season. Best decision IMO. I don't understand the other responses. If you really want to ski then switch and progress for yourself who gives a fuck if your the slow sucky kid? Your friends can even help you out. If your nervous about what people will think or you just prefer boarding better than board away........

i started skiing last year after snowboarding for four+ years, best decision of my life

I was a boarder for 5 years before I switched to skis. Just do it and dont look back. There was an aggrivating adjustment period where I wasnt as good/couldnt do on skis what I could on a board, but if you commit to it without reaching for your board every time you get frustrated you'll pick it up quick and won't regret it.

Hey guys thanks a lot all this is really helping my decision. And I agree I think it would be a good change for me too and when I skied the few times it was literally so sick and my buddy's that skied said it was crazy how gas I picked stuff up. But like you guys said just have to dedicate myself.

I snowboarded for 9 years and made the switch two seasons ago. Like someone said earlier, best decision of my life. The first couple days were sorta tough, but it was pretty easy for me. I did, however, come from a hockey background and pick things up relatively easy. I'd say do it and don't look back. You won't regret it.

I'll tell ya this as a former instructor of both disciplines, you will pick up skiing much easier than it took to master snowboarding. Waaaay easier on the butt and wrists. Also your snowboard park ability will transfer over to skiing quite nicely. The only exception will be landings. It's gonna take ya a bit to acclimate yourself to landing with your feet facing forward or back and not one side or the other. It wont take long though as you'll discover it's a pretty natural feel due to snowboarding with your shoulders square to the fall line anyway. I'd say like the others have to go for it and don't look back. You can get more technical in the park on skis for one and you also will appreciate getting off the lift and jus going as opposed to sitting down, strapping in, and holding everybody up. (the same goes for flat sections). I would say though that you may want to look into a wider ski. It has been my experience that people coming from snowboarding prefer something wider underfoot, even in the park, to maintain that "surfy" feel. Something like the 2012 line bacons would be perfect cause they're a little wider underfoot but still shred park. I'd also recommend perhaps taking at least one half day lesson. As cheesy as that sounds it'll speed up your "basics" progression quite a bit. Good luck and enjoy!

Already knowing how to snowboard will make learning to ski much easier. I think its worth doing both, one influences the riding style of the other. After snowboarding for 4 years my tuck and how i ride skis is now totally different. If I was rich enough to afford gear for both, I would probably snowboard like once a week. They are both fun, why not do both?

being a skier i say ya dude go for it... but if i was really good at boarding and wasnt at skiing id stick to what i was good at.

2 planks vs 1...who cares, we are all doing the same basic thing.

Why not learn to do both? I don't know if you get out enough days to justify that but theres my two cents for yo ass
