Snowboarding reaching its peek?

on second thought, not realy it may have slowed a bit trick progression wise but its still pretty damn popular. Im sick of all the newbs in the park sitting on the landings of the jumps and shit like that. its ok if their new but need to use commen sense and keep it to the buny park!

This is BS. Just look at nicholas Muller and Gigi Ruuf.

I mean those guys are absoutly crazy, even in a year the amount they push snowboarding is rediculous. Guys like that and Mahre, pollard and tanner in skiing are showing where we're both progressing to.

Sure snowboarders feet are locked in place, but that is where "tweaking" comes in and different tricks are defined based on how the rider positions their legs with certain grabs.

I think what you are noticing is the fact freesking is younger than snowboarding and therefore there are larger gaps between seasons as far as progession goes. Look 5 years back in snowboarding and it will look pretty similar. Do the same in freesking and it's drastically different. because freeskiing is younger, it appears to be changing faster as it defines itself.

freeskiing is progressing faster if you look at number of spins, number of grabs etc etc. but i still think that the style and the rail tricks arent quite up to the level yet. in general (from looking at local pros and trailers for this years movies) i think snowboarders are way more creative.

as far as rail tricks...there are guys who are getting there creative wise, Tom obviously being one of them, and stuff like handplants, fastplants and butters are where skiing i think should go. eventually we wont be able to hit jumps any bigger or do any more spins, so itll sort of devolve into creative small jibs

ya, but a 270 is probably about as far as you can go pretzing off a rail on a snowboard and its verry hard to pretz on a box for snowboarders.

ya you can pretzel out of a back board or front board, but it is almost impossible to 270 pretzel 270 out.

this doesn't exactly fit the title of the thread but whatever:

i love watching snowboarding movies and reading thier magazines and i think that snowboarding and sking without poles has a definite resemblance with rails. but i think the resemblance looks super dope and i think both sports have things that are easier to do but the more we ski together the more we can progress. snowboarding has made its way into ns even. just look at the amount of members that board and how theres even a little more coverage even on snowboarding.

holy shit. you are RETARDED. everything you said is wrong.

1- having 1 board, theres almost MORE you can do than with two

2- who gives a rats ass. when we fall on a jump, our skis pop off and we gotta hike up and grab um. you could just as easily make that argument.

3. short radius turns- BAHAHA! snowboards have 6-8 meter turn radiuses. most skis have around 20, and even slalom skis cant touch that. snowboards can literally turn circles around skis.

and switch on a Snowboard is just as hard if not harder than switch on skis.

i think it is hoh much more can you do in terms of grabs just when i thought skiing was runing out of grabs we got octo and multiple grabs during one spin

i did see this prity cool looking vid where they are snowboarding in a swiming pool it looked sick

i think there will always be some new jib to hit in the woods some where

has anyone seen patchwork patters? that to me is an example of how snowboarding, or noboarding is progressing, these guys do kickflips and varial flips on snowboards, one foot boardslide quick click out shove-it out. so sick

if you want to see progression, dont watch the fuckin xgames, except for the double flips a la travis rice, you aint gonna see shit, watch thinkthank productions and tell me some of those tricks arent progressive, johnny miller tree tap 270 to boardslide on a picnic table what!

Patchwork Patterns is sick.  Snowboarding is sick.  Those of you who think it's stopped progressing don't watch enough snowboard movies.

just don't talk to people from the northwest about them...they almost got some guys on here banned from snoqualmie cause they talked some shit, and snoqualmie tried to go through with it, gayest shit ever.

i completley agree. everyone here is only talking about the park. but what about outside the park? you have no idea the amount of things you can do on a snowboard.

"3. short radius turns- BAHAHA! snowboards have 6-8 meter turn radiuses. most skis have around 20, and even slalom skis cant touch that. snowboards can literally turn circles around skis."

literally, snowboarders can turn circles around skiers. the amount of things you can do with only one edge tops that of what you can do with two edges.

as far as progression, i think they are about the same. snowboarding in the park was more "hot shit" years ago. so the progression has tapered off a lil. where as the skier, have "catching up" to do? if that's the right way to phrase it? i will admit, i really love to watch a skier throw down in the park. the style they have is absolutley amazing. although, tweaked grabs a snowboarder throws make me tingle inside. lol
